Cut-Throat Entertainment has over 50 people involved, all of which they consider "investors" because they ask for monthly fees. It is high pressure, as they hold meetings in libraries and take money at the door.

Basically, how the company works is they get people really excited about their movies, and fail to produce in a timely manor, and people leave the company. So, they sign on more "investors" - which is shady. They have virtually no background in film production, take advantage of gullible teens, and lie about everything involved in the process - boasting a return on investments, and even lie about the future implantation of a production facility downtown Columbus - which may be a real goal... but not until they have money.

They once claimed to have 50+ employees/investors, and yet shot their last 40 min quasi feature for 3,000$. There were maybe 30-40 people on set, 3-5 with any professional experience. I do not know if anyone was paid They slander people when they attempt to leave the "Company" calling them unprofessional and childish in mass e-mails sent out to everyone involved in the company.

The content of their movies is supposed to be horror, but it is softcore porn. In their premier movie "break" ... a 40 minute feature (40mins does not qualify as a feature, and will not be recognized as one by any legitimate competition or organization as a feature), they boasted 7 topless girls in production. I am not aware of how many made the final cut. There have been several claims of sexual harassment regarding key figures within the company, however, none have been followed up with legal action. Generally, the females receive a cordial e-mail from the company, and then a second sleazy "would you be willing to go nude, and what would you be willing to do sexually" email from a faux address - but sharing CTE's IP address. At the premier, key figure of the production who had a falling out with the company, were not credited - Keep in mind, that everyone involved is an "investor" - So, if you give this company money they will take it, but you may not even be recognized by the production!

Cut-Throat Entertainment at this time 2009 to early 2010, is NOT a licensed LLC, which makes ----- the sole proprietor and CEO...but he probably does not know this having no background in business, and only a minor incomplete education in film production. It is also not recognized by the BBB.

Avoid them at all costs. I joined their company a little over a year ago and left after production of their first movie "Break". They ridicule you when you leave and then beg you to come back when they need money.

They have a complete lack of professionalism, and are built around lies, and slander. They are not, "The Midwests premiere film production company" as stated on their website ...not on a 3,000$ budget! They even have some decent hardworking people tied in with their scam. The issue is that they're governed by individuals who have absolutely no idea what they're doing, can look you in the eye and lie to your face - which puts everyone involved at risk.

I'm fairly certain that several points in the aforementioned script are illegal practices. I however, am not an entertainment lawyer. The point of this article is not to slander the company, but inform the public of their operation practices as of 2009.

Avoid them at all costs, and demand your "investment" money back if you're involved. If they want real investors, they should be able to get real investors - and not be forced to rely on naive kids' date money. They currently recruit through "craigslist" in every major city in Ohio. They no longer put their company name on adds because everyone that has worked with them flags their posts on sight.

Young guys trying to make a movie

I was having one of those looking back at the past days and just googled Cut-Throat and found this angry garbage. First, I worked with Dean at the company. He left after he was convicted of sexual assault. He was there for like a month. There was no girl ever at the company named Cassie but with the date mentioned and things mentioned I know who the GUY who wrote that actually is. I mean if you want to say something you should have the guts to put your own name at least.

It was a young group of guys who basically asked if we'd all like to get together to be able to make movies. Yet mistakes were made but it was fun getting on a set. Everyone there had a blast but after so many people became prima donnas. They made a 40 minute film and then everyone wanted to be a director and everyone wanted to get paid. The film was shown one night at a small theater. I would imagine the movie made enough to cover the DVDs they printed out and the venue they showed it at.

I found most of the people from the company and none are working in film today. Neither of the two who posted on this are working on films, well the first GUY worked on a local horror film but weirdly enough, one of the guys who ran Cut-Throat worked on that film, so I guess it's water under the bridge or this was the only offer he had to get back on a set, which is rather amusing.

I was sad to see all these people who came together become so filled with egos that they tore it apart. That and the DP guy stealing money but I never did like that guy, always seemed shady to me. I know this page doesn't mean anything, the company is long gone, who cares, I wish it would come back, I donated $100 to the film over several months and if someone told me that if I gave $100 again, I'd get to work with some awesome people, have a freaking amazing time on set, and have some memories like I did the first time. Yeah, I'd do it all over again. Those guys let me live a dream, I can't thank them enough.

Sometimes you just got to Eat On, right "Cassie".

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Risks were taken for sure...

AUTHOR: Dean - (United States of America)

I am a person of neutrallity, but on my honest criticism puts my experiance that I endured with the company in a very questionable position with my peers in the past. As I have all the emails, rosters, contact information and every little bit of info sent out very well documented as well as the greyhound ticket stubs spent in making it 200 miles to the monthly meetings which was all I could afford to do. I was an "investor" in this company, I was a "believer" in this company. I went out of my way to try and make a contribution under the beliefs that my efforts would be compensated for in the long run. Who's to say they were fully legit or not? of course their ways of asking for money seemed slightly shady AFTER the fact that you contributed $20, 30 or even $100 or more. The guys running this operation are masters of manipulation if they knew they were being fradulent and totally unprofessional. I'm sure if you stirred the pot enough and tried to drag everyone that might possibly still be with this company to file some sort of complaint to the right legal sources or professional expert, you could find something.

I am personally still chasing my dreams to become a filmmaker, on my own after all these years. THATS what independant means. This company was only dependant on their "employees".

It's my understanding that their website has been shutdown and they packed up and left town, wherever that might be, and from a known source the new name for business is now "Mudhouse Media". I do not know where they stand these days, or if they are even creeping around on the low untill the heat settles to start up another operation, but from my experiance everyone that has worked with them I have heard nothing but slander. My experiance with them probably was a waste of time, too much heart, AND money, but I can't say that untill the real research has been done. The environment was nice, the people were commited and excellent, but what were the real intentions of the people in charge?
