Here is a chronology of this matter:

  • Purchased CyberScrub Lifetime Uprade Insurance (LUI) on March 14,2004.
  • Received major and minor upgrades through on November 30, 2007 (through version 5).
  • Received notice on November 17, 2009 stating the following:
Sent request to get valid license code for version 6 of their product and to get current pricing for their subscription service on July 15, 2017.
    • LUI holders will get all future versions of Privacy Suite (such Privacy Suite 6.0, 7.0, etc.) at no charge.
    • However, LUI holders could participate in an optional Yearly Upgrade Subscription to obtain patches to clean updated third party products.
  • Received no response from Cyberscrub so I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Atlanta.
  • Cyberscrub didn't respond to the Better Business Bureau by their deadline despite e-mail and mail communications to the company (due August 14, 2017).
  • Received an e-mal from Cyberscrub on August 11, 2017 stating the following:
    • "your product [Lifetime Upgrade Insurance?] ... seems to be a very old version and is no longer supported."  This comment made absolutely no sense to me since Privacy Suite continues to be supported by this company and is currently on sale on their website (now version 6).
    • "Also, please note that we had informed all of our LUI customers about the cancellation of LUI policy and started yearly subscription module way back on September 16, 2008."  I received no such communication.  A Knowledge Base article from November 17, 2019 actually explained the new program (see third bullet above).  I pulled this Knowledget Base article a full year after the alleged "cancellation" of the LUI program.

I am absolutely shocked that this company can unilaterally void a Lifetime Upgrade Insurance policy.  Please recognize that this company will say or do anything they want despite valid contracts between two parties.  Avoid thiis company and purchase an alternative product!

Cyberscrub Update

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, August 15, 2017

(The original review didn't load into Ripoff Report correctly.  Also, I decided to rewrite the compliant to make the issues clearer.)

I purchased CyberScrub Lifetime Upgrade Insurance (LUI) with my original CyberScrub software purchase on March 14, 2004. Per the LUI agreement, I was to continue receiving all future versions of Privacy Suite (such as Privacy Suite 6.0, 7.0, etc.) at no additional charge.

I contacted CyberScrub on July 15, 2017 asking for a valid license key so I could upgrade from version 5 to version 6. In response, I received an e-mail on August 11, 2017 stating the following:

- "Your product [Lifetime Upgrade Insurance?] ... seems to be a very old version and is no longer supported." This comment made absolutely no sense since I have been using version 5 for years and simply wanted to upgrade to version 6 of the same software (Privacy Suite) per the LUI agreement.

- "Also, please note we [CyberScrub] had informed all of our LUI customers about the cancellation of the LUI policy and started yearly subscription model way back on September 8, 2008. I received no such communication. I actually received an upgrade notice shortly after this date for a version 5 upgrade.

A Knowledge Base article from November 17, 2009 (a year later than this alleged letter) stated LUI holders will get all future versions of Privacy Suite (such as Privacy Suite 6.0, 7.0, etc.) at no charge. However, LUI holders could participate in an optional Yearly Upgrade Subscription to obtain patches to clean updated third party applications.

It is entirely disillusioning that a presumably reputable company would simply unilaterally void a Lifetime Upgrade Insurance policy that CyberScrub offered and I accepted through my valid purchase. If this company can take this action, I have to believe that this company will say or do anything they want despite the execution of valid license agreements.

I am asking CyberScrub to honor the Lifetime Upgrade Insurance agreement that I purchased pursuit to a valid licensing agreement, and to provide a valid license key to the current version of their software (version 6). Also, I am asking CyberScrub to provide the current terms and costs of the optional annual subscription service.
