WOW !!! I called up David Michael Interiors to do a repair that they never did and also gave them my credit card . They charged my card even though they never did the work, they would'nt give me a refund. Then after some pressing, they offered me back half.

I was going to go through the trouble of filing complaints like the others Ive recently seen, but after some consideration, I just called my Credit Card company and explained what was going on.

Thankfully they assured me that I would not be charged and they would not get my money.

I wish I would have looked at some of the reviews before giving them my CC information. Now I beleive that this is not a company you can trust.

AFter some back and forth I decided it wasn't worth my time, but now I see that I am not the only one they tried to do this to. So I might as well post my review too.

Thats' not a good way to do business. Even if they do quality work , which they may, can they be trusted???

For anyone considering doing business with this company, I would say, don't give them cash or check, because they will never give that back and if you do give them a credit card authorization, be sure to have a good relationship with your bank.

Then if they do to you what they tried to do to me, at least you'll get your money back.

Home improvement is hard enough when your dealing with honest people.

I know I wouldn't use them again.

Good luck to all and be careful before you give any personal information to anyone.

Here's a synopsis of how the unsuccesful refund attempts went and possibly what you may experience when dealing with them. The phone converstions were even worse...What a shame...

FROM ME TO DAVID MICHAEL INTERIORS

Roberta,

Please pass this along to David.

When I called in for an “estimate” I was told that 544.33 would cover it. I said “ I was told there was more damage, how could you be sure of the estimate.?” The response was ,”the other companies are crooks.”

I then was emailed a credit card authorization form, which in good faith I signed to be charged upon completion of the job. After someone finally went to the space, I was told the price would be higher and you were not sure how much.

Nevertheless, I am not going to be repairing those drapes, and I find my card was charged and NOW I am told, “well, we have to see how much time we have into this”that you will refund me “ some “ money.

This is an unacceptable response.

The price was for the job, not for an estimate and you know this. The two other companies did not charge me for an estimate and I never would have agreed to be charged for an estimate. Who is acting like a “crook” now?

I am the WRONG GUY to do this to!!!

I can assure you, you will not be stealing one penny from me. Be advised If you do not refund the entire balance, I will deny the charge AND

I will file complaints with :

NYC Dept. of Consumer Affairs

42 Broadway

NY, NY 1004

And

The Consumer Response Center

Federal Trade Commission

CRC-40

Washington, DC 20580

NY State Attorney General’s Office

Consumer Fraud and Protection Burea

120 Broadway

New York, NY 10271

I will also file a complaint and be certain to post my reviews of my dealings with your company with Homeadvisor.com from who I was referred your number.

Not to mention I will also file with the RIPOFF REPORT a detailed narrative of my dealings with you so that this does not happen to anyone else.

So don’t be penny wise and dollar foolish. My advice is , you amicably refund me every penny of the charges you put on my card, adhere to higher ethical business practices and go along your merry way.

Please advise by days end.

JP

FROM  DAVID MICHAEL INTERIORS TO ME

Dear John,

When you originally contracted us to do the repair we were told that the drapes just needed to be re-hung back on the track.  You mentioned that the drapery had come off of the drapery rod.  We sent our installer as promised and upon inspection we discovered that not only were the drapery off the track but they were ripped and that the track was missing carriers and the track would need to be replaced. This of course turns out to be a much larger project.  We did research, tried several times to contact the original fabricator of the drapery but were not able to get any answers.

We understand that you no longer want us to continue with this project and apologize that we were unable to help you see this through.

David would be happy to refund you half of the $500 .  The $250 will cover our installers time and office time invested in this project. In order for David to refund you the $250 please sign this email acknowledging that this is OK with you can either email or fax it back to us.  The minute we receive the ok we will refund you the $250 and send you a copy of the refund.

We wish you the best of luck in your resolution of this repair.

Best Regards,

Roberta Levine

FROM ME TO DAVID MICHAEL INTERIORS

Roberta,

I appreciate you responding, but that is unacceptable. I've already voiced my side of the story in my prior email, which is why I asked for an "estimate". You were the one that I spoke with and you know as well as I do exactly how the conversation went. Since you do not have the authorization to refund  my money, I will leave you out of it.

At no time did I expect that my credit card would be charged without having the job completed.  I  respectfully request that David authorize the refund of the ENTIRE amount, maintain his reputation and we part our separate ways. Ask David if the $250 is really worth his reputation.

I am not bluffing, I am not spending any more time on this, and he should note that him and I live in the same small town and its good to keep amicable relationships with neighbors. However, I feel that I have been taken advantage of and I will move forward as previously mentioned to voice my complaint to the aforementioned agencies if I do not receive a full refund, or written verification of it by email by 12:00 noon tomorrow.

Please advise, JP

Furthermore

He will not be smiling if I am not smiling by noon tomorrow. Also please note, I have a plethora of attorneys at my disposal and would rather spend $5000 on them then be taken for 250 by you...its about the principal.

Eagerly awaiting your response,

JP

Ok David,

You win. I'm going to take the high road here and just part amicably...you will not collect the charge though, that's enough for me.

However, if you would like to talk this out like a man, I'd be more than happy to meet you face to face.

Anyway, good luck in your future endeavors.

Warm regards,

JP

Great company

David and his son Brian did work for me at my house on Long Island. They walked my wife and I threw the entire process from start to finish. David and his son treated my wife, my home and myself with nothing but kindness and respect. To quote my wife they were perfect gentlemen. To get to there work they designed and fabricated Roman Shades, Curtains, Pillows, wood blinds and roller blinds. They took time to look at fabrics with us. My wife and I picked out fabrics, but David suggested to go with 2 or 3 different fabrics. I am so glad we went with his suggestion. Everything came out better than expected. David was very honest with us as well. There was a few other things we wanted to do. But David said they we should not waste our money, and could get the same exact thing at Home Depot, or bed bath and beyond. There was a hiccup along the way, but they let us know what was going on and took care of us like we were family. It was worth the wait and the money. My house now looks better than I could of imagined. To comment on the original post. Nothing in the world cost nothing. Be happy that you got half of your money back. The other half was probably the cost for the installers time and Roberta’s time (who works with David). You say that you would spend $5,000 to get back $250. That is crazy. I wouldn’t want to do any work for you after reading this. I feel sorry for anyone who does. It sounds like you would be the type of person who would have the same response you just gave David to another company for an accidental scratch on the wall. I love David Michael Interiors and would recommended them to anyone and everyone.
