After reading the information on Cydcor, I am fairly confident that the company that I recently interviewed with is a branch of theirs. I sent my resume to them for an Event Planner position on a Tuesday night and recieved an automated e-mail to call and set up an interview. I set up my interview for Thursday.

I walked into the offices and it was not at all what I expected. The lobby was no bigger than a closet. I was called in for the interview and the woman I met with was extremely nice, but was very vague about the company and what they did. My understanding of it at the time was that it was a marketing organization that handled event planning for non-profit organizations.

My interview lasted all of 10 minutes and she asked me to come back for a second round interview at 9:30am. She said it would last until 6:30pm and that I should wear comfortable shoes as I would be on my feet most of the day. I thought it was odd, but the interviewer seemed nice and working for non-profit organizations seemed fun.

I came back the next morning and there was a lobby full of people. I started talking to these other people and we all seemed to have some reservations. My concern was that we were expected to ride along with these complete strangers for a whole day. How was I supposed to leave if I wanted to? As I was discussing these reservations with the other candidates, I saw a girl I had met once walk through the doors. She was an employee. I remembered this girl talking about her job at a party and she had been selling finger printing kits outside of a grocery store all day. Right away, I was concerned. I signed on for event planning, not sales.

As luck would have it, I was paired with her to do this "job shadow." She was extremely rude to me at first when I said I had met her before. She kept saying that she wasn't from the area and she knew no one. It wasn't until another employee told her that we did know each other through a mutual friend, that she caught on. By this time I was thoroughly annoyed. I walked with her to her car and once we got in, she started grilling me with all of these questions about marketing and why I wanted to change jobs.

Finally I was able to get a word in and I directly asked if we were required to sell something. She danced around it for quite a bit, and eventually said that there would be some sales involved. She then explained that we are all here for the greater goal of becoming entry level managers. What kind of company hires that many managers? At that point I knew better, and got the heck out of the car. I watched another girl do the same.

I don't understand how a company can lure people in with the hope of an event planner position that is really sales. I was lucky enough to not have wasted my entire day with this company. I feel sorry for those that may have bought into this scheme. This company is truly in the business of taking advantage of young college students who are looking for a break.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

I too have been scammed by this company.

For the record: Davis Direct Marketing is an affiliate of Quantum and Next Level Promotions/ New Image Concepts is Innovage.

I never got a paycheck from this company. So much for their "paid training". I also signed up to be an event planner. Then I found out how the SCAM people into believing that they are a real charity, when they're not. I couldn't lie to people and convince them otherwise. I also overheard a leader meeting telling them how to lie to potential new employees. I had enough! I went online and checked out Quantum and found a whole lot of information, and their scams run the same all over the country! I plan on reporting them to the Dept of Labor for not paying me.

This company needs to be exposed because when googled, it mostly comes up as their scammy job ads! I've seen them outside the Walmart I go to a few times....I wanted to say something, but I recognized one of the girls at the table and just walked away in disgust. I hope everyone finds out about their shady business tactics and they can be shut down.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Could be the others, DS Max, Innovage, Smart Circle, Quantum

They are all the same as Cydcor. They began with the same roots and then split into other divisions. You are right, it is the same company. Beware jobseekers, they will get you.

I'm no longer sure that Davis Direct Marketing or Next Level Promotions are affiliates or Cydcor. Their interviewing practices however, are very similar.
