I was sent an email, after I was trying to find out about patenting an idea for a new paintbrush. Davison sent a folder with information showing how successfully they had helped other inventors to get their product on the maket.

They led me to believe with their help I wouldn't have to do any research, or finding contacts, or paperwork etc. to sell my idea.

They offered invention marketing services. First, for $585.00, Mark Evans, employee at Davison, offered research in the form of a product research and to research other ideas and uses for my idea, stating that they were close and working with top companys. They needeed my money so they could make sure no one else had a patent, etc. for this product. I had to pay out the money in two payments, emptying my savings.

They sent papers for me to sign so they could get on with their research. In paperwork they sent me it said the total number of clients who have contracts with the company is three thousand five hundred fourty nine. I was warned that they could help get things done, because if I didn't inquire into the law governing patents I may jeopardize my rights to my idea. For just 10% of any money made from my invention, so he said, that lets me know they want me to make money so they can get money from sales. I was told they would getright on it, because now they are working on their own money and time.

Today I recieved a letter that said we need more done because we have a large company, known by everyone, that is interested in my product but they have to show this company how much it costs to make them, etc. Now I need to apply for a patent, but they will prepare all the documents for me so I can get a patent; they will pay for the costs associated with preparing the documents.

Now Mark Evans will call me, and who knows what's next, I believe they are going to want more money. I am afraid to do business with them now because I can see they did no research, or preperation of a prototype as they had promised. I also don't know how to get out of the contract I signed.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

It's the old invention development con! You're lucky you only lost $500!

AUTHOR: Paul - (U.S.A.)

Linda, I'm not familiar with the name of the company. But, it sounds like the old invention development con.

You call or write asking for help with your invention. They have this whole line of bullshit in place, just waiting for a sucker to come along. From the things you mentioned about patents, it sounds like the con.

A real company would have helped you develop a prototype first.

Be glad you only spent a week's salary. I've heard of people who have mortgaged their house for this nonsense. Usually they will string you along for years. They tell you that they are always right on the edge of a major breakthrough.

When you finally run out of money, or quit, they say the failure is all yours. They were willing to work, you just ran out of financing.

The way to get out of the contract is by not sending any more money. Of course, you don't tell them that. You string them along. The next time they call, tell them you are completely committed. As soon as you get more money, you will be able to send thousands.

Never call them. That costs money. Instead, let them call you. Tell them you are working on re-financing your home. Or, selling the car for money for the invention. But, somehow, it always falls through. Then, come up with a new scheme to raise money.

If you do it right, you can get them to waste the whole $585 you sent them on long distance calls between Pittsburg and Oklahoma.

Usually, they'll go on for a few months or so. Once they see that you can't get any more money, they'll stop calling for good. End of problem!
