Having read the experiences of those reporting here and checking with the Better Business Bureau, I see that I have been taken advantage of by this company also.

Like Many of you, I had an idea and contacted Davison. I had a phone conversation and did submit $685.00.

Like many of you, I was told that this would cover about 13 hours of work and was told that this would be the only out of pocket money that I would need to put up. I was told that, if more money was needed later, that this would simply be covered by readjusting the royalty split.

About 6 weeks later (Like many of you, I did notice that the time frames, and amounts of money initially paid are similar.) They called me to say that a manufacturer had been located and that due to the "magnitude" of the manufacturer, the company president would be getting involved.

I got another call from the "Director of New Products" that I was working with. (What I know now is that this is the title all of their glorified salespeople have!) He said that a product sample was required and a presentation made, which would require an extra $5,000 - $10,000. He said more materials would be coming my way to be signed by me, including options of payment.

When they arrived, there was no option which would simply allow a royalty readjustment that would cover the entire cost. I would have to shell out $8,000 at the very least!

This got me to thinking, so I started checking. The Better Business Bureau told me that there were numerous complaints. Then I tried to find info on the manufacturer that they had "located". There was a website, but search engines, the BBB, and even this site show nothing, so I'm not sure if the website is all there is or if they just "pulled" the name out of a hat, with the manufacturer maybe having an excellent record but not knowing that they are being used!

Then I came to this site and saw all of your stories, many of which match mine to a "T".

I wrote a letter to the "director" that I was workking with, and faxed it to him over the weekend before our last scheduled phone meeting this morning. When he called, he denied getting the letter, though my machine indicated that the fax went through. (I also used the same fax number that is listed on their stationery and through which I'd faxed the original documents, which he did receive!)

He also rebutted my concerns and denied saying that a royalty split would be used to cover future costs, which was what I expected, then said that if I didn't pay, then he'd have to terminate the project and I wouldn't get any royalties. When I asked him if he thought that the idea would pay off, he quickly said that they make no guarantees. (Then why are they pursuing the idea? Because they have no risk!)

I then requested my initial $685.00 back and he said "That won't happen.", which is also what I'd expected. I then politely said that it was nice doing business up to this point, said goodbye, and hung up.

I want to thank all of you for writing your stories here, because, by doing so, you did prevent me from making a much bigger mistake than the $685.00 that I spent.

And a warning to those reading this for the first time: Don't do business with Davison, and check out any business or individual that you don't know, before doing business with them! It can save you a lot of headaches.

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, it's paid for!
