My husband and I just moved to Dayton about a week ago and we have been trying to get the power turned on since a few days before then. When my husband finally got through to someone, we were already piling our things into our first house (we need the room because I'm pregnant with his first born and my daughter is coming home soon). They charged my husband a $75 deposit to turn on service, which we paid. They also told my husband that his father's name was connected to his social security number and that he would have to fax in a notarized copy of his license and social security card in order to get the power turned on. We've faxed them twice, having to wait an hour to call back and stay on hold for another hour just in case someone picked up too soon. Both times, the company rejected our fax. THe first time, they said the notary was not valid and the second they said my husband's license was too dark to read. We spent what was left of our "move-in" money trying to notarize the paper, fax it off, and buy food for us to eat. I am now sitting in Wal Mart's Subway with my laptop and all-in-one printer trying to get everything to download to the laptop (it's my husband's...mine is in the shop and that's where everything was downloaded to). My house is freezing cold. We have no way to keep food (unless it's canned). The power company closed an hour ago after refusing to accept my husband's notarized faxes. I am tired and stressed, no one cares I'm in a high risk pregnancy for a child we really want to have, or that we have no electricity in our home. Besides DP&L being completely heartless, they suggested that we go to a community action center who is not going to help us get the power turned on, but will fax everything for us (leaving yet another rejected notarized paper).
