I have been trying to get enrolled at Northlake College in Irving Texas for the past two years. I chose this college because it is about three miles from my home and I could not afford to commute to any other of the colleges, and also why I have been applying for financial aid in order to get a degree and hopefully a better job. Last year, I started in July with my FAFSA and begin getting ready to start school in the Fall. They told me to keep checking the e-connect web site to see if the college financial aid center needed any additional information. Nothing every changed on the e-connect page so that August I registered for classes bought school supplies, but never got an Award letter.  Days before school started, I tried calling the College to see if there was a delay and no one would answer the phone. So I traveled by bus to the College and there was 30 people in the waiting room waiting for the ONE 70 year old financial aid rep help one person at a time. I was there 6 hours and the rep. told me that I needed to have my father fill out a verification form. I sadly have not seen my father in many years and do not know where he is located. I told her this and she shrugged her shoulders and said there is nothing we can do. I am an independent student, I contacted one of the other colleges and they told me I did not need that info but it was too late to do anything about it.
This year I got started back in April with the FAFSA, and again traveled to the school to make sure that I would be ready for fall 2011. Again they told me to keep checking my email and e-connect. Nothing happened until the middle of July, again they e-mailed me a verification form, this time they asked for my tax return to be uploaded to the school. After supplying the tax forms they sent another message saying the needed additional pages. I supplied the new pages, then they sent me another message saying I needed to sign the tax return and submit it again. But now the verification page would not let me resubmit my return. I call the school, waited on hold for 20 minutes and was hung up on. I called back the next day at 7am and got the same thing. Everyday for the past two weeks the same thing. I written numerous e-mails along with calls and even traveled to the school three times and I get the same person saying wait for an e-mail. Now its a week before school starts and again I have no award letter. Is this happening to anyone else? Who do I go to to complain about this?

Sadly enough you are not the only one having problems

My husband had the exact same issue you are experiencing. As told to us after waiting on hold for 2 hrs only to be Hung up on and then driving up to el centro college and waiting for 4 hours, after you have submitted your tax return several times by uploading it, the computer Will not accept it anymore and will continue to show the required documents need to be sent in. The most effective way to clear that error n override the many times you have sent the wrong info is to fax it....if you go to WWW.dcccd.EDU/verify and login there is a fax coversheet you MUST print out and fax as well. If you are married and your spouse is on ur tax return u MUST print out the SPOUSE coversheet and fax separately with requested tax forms....Good Luck to you.

Northlake Financial Aid Problems

AUTHOR: Dee - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 17, 2011

I see that I am not the only one having this problem. Thanks for all your comments and help. I have given up on Northlake College and the whole dcccd education system and I have also filed a complaint with the Ombudsmans office. I think we all should file complaints. This is ridiculous and these people should have to pay for what they are doing to us. The website to file a complaint is www.ombudsman.ed.gov and the phone number is 1-877-557-2575.  Good luck to you guys!!

Four Year College's have a higher graduation rate!

AUTHOR: Lisa - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 17, 2011

The University of Texas
at Dallas, http://www.utdallas.edu/  is free for people that make less than some
where between 20,000.00 and 30,000.00 a year if you want to look into going
there. This is a four year college and if you can get in it would be smart
because hardly any classes transfer over from a community college.

There has been a ton of complaints about these DCCCD colleges on reviews, but some how they get them removed and make up all the positive ones. They got mine removed. I went to El Centro College and it was a complete nightmare. They left me crying every time I had to deal with anyone in any department and finally decided to go to a four year college. The financial aid department was the most unprofessional people I have ever meet in my life. Stay away from them, these people get their enjoyment out of life by making and ruining other peoples lives, or trying to at least.

Below is what an employee wrote that worked in the financial aid department at El Centro College,

"
I
certainly do not want to be critical of El Centro college because I work with
some wonderful people, however, I would want others to be aware that there are
many, but not all employees that work in the financial aid office(as you will
see when applying) that are very unprofessional, lazy and simply just unhappy.
I must say that after realizing that I must make a copy of every scholarship I
complete or any other paperwork, being misinformed several times by Samona
Griffin (intentionally with witnesses), being a victim of slander as the
Director (John Wells) sit by and supported it, I will finally leave those
bitter individuals behind. I would advise anyone that this department has been
the subject of many complaints by students and it is a worthless battle so if
you have to go through this department instead of just registration pray and
take a deep breath before you go. Its not about the students because it is a
family affair in there. You shall see for yourself. I regret attending this
particular campus just for convenience when the environment of the others were
much better and professional. This department has become complacent with
misinforming, embarrassing, acting immaturely and inappropriately because
everything is swept under the rug.Good luck and hold on to your dreams and do
not become discouraged by those who obviously are unhappy because they have not
purpose. Know that when you know your purpose and who you are, those that don't
will feel threatened by you. I hope the district office looks into this and
does what is right(defined by policies ) and morally. No student should have to
endure any type of mistreatment by any staff at any college when they are
attending for the sole purpose of completing higher education. I hope someone
with some authority reads this and addressed it because it is a serious problem

"

Regards,

April
