My husband when to DCH Toyota in New Brunswick looking for a Toyota Corolla LE. He's hearing impaired so he had the salesman contact me while he was there. All seemed on the up and up. I was quoted the base price, plus tax, plus distination charges, and a "tire tax". My husband wanted to go to his credit union but he assured us, he would give a better rate. He quoted either 4.9% or 5.9%. Can't remember which. The very next day, my husband goes there. I had text messaged him DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING!!! Of course he starts selling him more stuff, including an extended warranty. He calls me for my opinion. I don't like it but basically say its my husband's decision. Next I know my huband has a loan from $16,800 that is now $19,100. I can't really complain about that because my husband apparently chose the extended warranty. (Frankly I am afraid to look at the contract to see what other crap he allowed himself to be talked into.)

Later, I find out the rate is 7.9%! My husband has excellent credit. I tell myself, okay, we can fix this. He's mad at the salesguy but my attitude was nobody told you to sign the contract and he's a car saleman so of course he's a liar. We go to his credit union. The loan officer wants us to call the dealer and request a quote. Now this is where I get pissed. I call, someone says fine will fax over. I call 2 hours later to make sure they did. I get the salesman on the line. He starts going on and on about he was fair and honest and he has hurt feelings that we weren't satisfied and he's talking about my husband got the monthly payments he wanted (they are $100 more than he EVER wanted to spend). I say we just want a quote faxed to the credit union. His response is now if you would only come in we can talk about the numbers and his monthly payments. I say I don't care about the monthly payments I care about the rate of interest (see they suck you into worrying about the monthly payments, thinking you won't think about the rate of interest and how much you will pay over the life of the loan).

After 10 minutes of this crap, he takes the credit union's fax number. I get a call from some other clown. He starts arguing with me, too. I say, just fax the damned payoff. Well its the amount of the contract, he says. I say fine, but the credit union wants that in writing, please fax a quote in writing. I call back 10 minutes later and get yet another clown. He didn't speak to me. He does't know who did. I say well the first guy I just spoke to wasn't the guy, and you aren't the guy, if there are 3 guys in finace, then give me the 3rd guy. I get a different clown. He proceeds with the same line of crap. I start getting upset and he is like why are you upset??? I say, Just faxed the damned payoff!!! I am trying to explain to you he says. Explain what??? We just want a pay off quoted. He says I am trying to make it easier. (The point being we are trying to comply with the credit union officer, not what *I* want to do or him, just fax the payoff quote over.)

Anyway, so I say give me the number to Toyota financial. After being on hold forever, they say the loan information is not there yet and, basically, the dealer can accept an agreed upon amount and tear up the contract. I go back to these clowns. I tell the receptionist. I already spoke to 4 or 5 clowns I want the owner. I get another jerk. He also is confused by this apparently alarming request. I say once again. If the quote is the amount on the contract and we are asked to fax a quote and the credit union does not want our say so and the contract but also a quote on some letterhead, I want you to fax the damned thing. Finally, after nearly one hour of my blood pressure going up, they fax it to me. Never, ever again willl we go there. Now I am afraid if we paid directly to the dealer, they don't tear up the contract and notify the financial company there is no loan and the financial company will say we owe them money.

So I think we will wait until we get the loan documents and call them and get a quote directly from them, but its going to take another 3 weeks, meanwhile interest rates are going up and the damned car ain't consider "new" any more. Sheesh!
