Debbie In Petsmart District Manager's behavior criminal Prattville, Alabama

I watched as our new District Manager (DM) bullied and harassed our manager and tried to make him resign.  The DM did not hire our manager and wanted him gone from day one. Yesterday he was let go. Our store is the cleanest and I have been in many stores, our manager is kind and works harder than any I have seen and longer hours. He got bonuses and our store did well.  Then in Jan. in this declining economy and in a company whose growth was 0.8, the DM upped our stores goal by about 20% and we still we did well compared to most stores in the district.  We sold more training classes and our manager worked well with customers and employees.  He was a walking advertisement and brought in more and more business.  He could calm an irate customer in a blink and they would become a regular customer. He went by the book and while most managers just check off lists of to-dos without a thought, he really did the job and then checked it off.  He had the employee work hours cut and then usually there were only 3 managers in the store instead of 6 due to vacations, illnesses, employees going to trainings for a week or two.  So our manager picked up the slack and worked 60++++ hours a week.  He really never got a day off because he had to come in for meetings, to unload trucks at 4 am, clean floors til midnight, etc. In all the years,the only time he has been out is when his father died and when he had to sign some papers at a hospital for his Uncle who had to have surgery.

There is something not right! I don't know if they were trying to get rid of him because of his age or if the DM had someone in mind like a friend or relative he wanted to put in our store or someone he wanted to move from another store to ours and put his friend in that one?  I know that the DM socializes with some other area managers and that they play golf together. Something is amiss cause we all know that this is not right.  Our manager loved his job, and he took care of the customers and employees. He treated everyone well and was honest. He had no vices and did not smoke or drink. He was proud of PetSmart and loyal and worked harder than anyone I have ever seen and cared about the animals. He went exactly by the book and if you know PetSmart,nothing is left to chance.  Every minute is accounted for and every task has to be checked off and is timed.  The other stores just check stuff off and don't really do the work but he did and we did too.

I won't be staying long now because if this could happen to such a good honest man, I do not sense that this would be a good company to stay with and I have children to think of.

If anyone knows anything about what the real reason for this DM letting him go is we would like to know.  Just once I would like to see the hard working honest guy come out on top.  This is just a crime. Has anyone else run across this tactic for replacing a manager.
