Within the past few weeks I have noticed a heating problem with my laptop. To the point that I did not place the laptop on anything which may possibly ignite. I aslo turned it off when it was not in use. It is hot to the point that it is painful if touched for several seconds.

I called Dell for help.  This was a very long, frustrating, and suspicious encounter.  These are the numbers in order as I dialed, instructed to dial, or transferred:

866 398-8977, 800 624-9896, 800 695-8133,

800 964-8321, 800 624-9897, 866 398-8977, 866 398-8977 and lastly a transfer connection to a number which the individual stated was "unpublished".  Please note the repetition in numbers which I clearly mentioned, "please here is where I've been, etc.".

Beginning at the end connection: When I stated to the person that I had a concern and complaint about the XPS laptop, I was disconnected!  Therefore after all the merry-go-round, no one could connected or wanted to talk about my complaint. Unlike their claim to have a Customer Service number, there is NO connection for concerns and/or complaints. And it seems evident that they were instructed not to discuss this issue.

The beginning started with speaking with someone about my laptop over heating. He immediately said it is a "heat sink". We went in several circles while he avoided my specific questions. Finally, it came down to that I could NOT buy a part, I had to send the computer to Dell only. NO clear reason except how wonderful it will be when I get it back. A cost of $199.00.  Told this includes shipping and minor repairs as needed. He could not and would not explain why shipping to Dell is the only way to fix my laptop.

If there are other major issues, they will call.

I became very suspicious from the beginning by the orchestrated directives etc, from the representative.

I did a few searches and found page after page of individuals reporting or asking for help fo the same problem with over heating as well with other issues since the XPS hit the market.

Although there are other class action suits against Dell, I did not come across one for this situation. If anyone is aware, please forward the pertinent information.

This is obviously a "manufacturer defect" in materials and/or production.  Therefore, being out of warranty or not should not matter just as a recall on vehicles, appliances, etc.

I have no option....NONE...except pay money to Dell for their mistakes.  The only way that I may be able to use this expensive lemon of a laptop which turned out to be a disaster. Most importantly, they are waiting until someone is injured and or fire damage, etc.  The is a disgrace that they do not accept responsibility for their potentially dangerous Dell manufactured XPS!!!

I also did some research on the XPS1530 and the consensus was....

The fan and air intake needed heavy dust accumulations removed.

If you continued to use this overheated computer, YOU are the cause of the motherboard failure.

Electronics and excess heat are a VERY poor combination. How long have you had this "lemon" computer?

I'll re-state, if it was so bad, how did it work for so long? The warranty, much as you'd like it to be, is NOT endless.

Dear sir.. Who states he doesn't work for Dell. Because you and I have or have had several dell computers does not therefore guarantee that all their computers are flawless. At times Mr. Dell expert it's principle and not just money. So stop whining and try to be a consumer advocate instead of supporting big business "get overs"."

Your inference that I work for Dell makes about 2 dozen companies I've been accused of working for on ROR.  A last resort for those with no further cogent argument.  FYI, I'm retired.

BTW, I don't "support big business or consumers blindly, I use reason and common sense, something that's sadly lacking in you.

Warranty?

You are just another person who does not understand what a warranty is.  They cover manufacturing defects and problems (with a few exceptions) for a period of time. Everyone wants the warranty extended to cover their particular problem. Sorry!

Dell computers are not perfect and are not claimed to be, neither is any other brand by the way. Dell is as good as most for the price.

Now I also need a mother board!

AUTHOR: Rob - (United States of America)

Beside the $199 for shipping and diagnostics, I know have been told that I need a mother board $375. He admitted class action suits but stated on this particular XPS model they do not have one listed as of this time. Dear sir.. Who states he doesn't work for Dell. Because you and I have or have had several dell computers does not therefore guarantee that all their computers are flawless. At times Mr. Dell expert it's principle and not just money. So stop whining and try to be a consumer advocate instead of supporting big business "get overs".

I would guess you've had this computer for 3-4 years now

and it's worked well until recently.

How is this Dell's fault after all this time?

Fan's can and do fail.  Dust can clog ventilation ports and build up on internal components.

"I did a few searches and found page after page of individuals reporting or asking for help fo the same problem with over heating as well with other issues since the XPS hit the market."

I did a few searches (nothing extensive) and didn't find any such issues with the XPS1530.

"Therefore, being out of warranty or not should not matter just as a recall on vehicles, appliances, etc. I have no option....NONE...except pay money to Dell for their mistakes."

Wouldn't it be great if manufacturers would just keep extending their warranties when something you own has a problem....great for you...not so great for them.  They'd soon be out of business.

I'll readily admit it's just my opinion, but the $199 for the full repair and probably updates is more than fair under these circumstances.

How can you say it's a design flaw when it apparently worked for several years until now?

Send the @!&** thing in and stop whining.

BTW, I don't work for Dell, but do have two of their computers, an XPS410 computer and a Studio 1735 laptop....no problems.
