Dell installed Trend Micro 12 Antivirus program at the factory on my computer and made it so it can not be removed from my computer and no other virus protection can be installed. In order to fix this problem, Dell says I have to pay them money to do it. Trend Micro failed to protect my computer from malewares, trojans, and viruses after I renewed my subscription to the service. I have worked with Trend for weeks through emails and I have repeatedly told them it's a dell computer with pre installed Trend Micro program. I am totally without any kind of protection. I am exasperated. I've been stressed to the hilt trying to get this fixed. I have been so limited as to what I can do online. It's not right that Dell set this computer up this way, it's a rip off.

Preinstalled Software

AUTHOR: -Christopher Kraus - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 24, 2008

Dell may give you the option to decline preinstallation of security software at the time of purchase. And Yes, You do need antivirus software on your computer, and it's also a good idea to have antispyware software also.

Start/Control Panel/Add remove Programs/

There is no way you cannot remove the Anti-Virus. I just don't believe that for a second. I do believe and know that Dell and the likes install tons of Bloatware like that however. That is very annoying. Whenever I purchase a laptop the first thing I do is a fresh install of the operating system.

You don't really need anti-virus anyways unless you download anything from Torrent websites or visit porn websites. There are many free programs available online as well as free online virus checkers.

Spyware terminator is a free program which monitors your web activity - its great.

Avast anti virus is also a free program and works great. Use a google search for either of those terms to downloand and install.

If not, you can always reinstall the operating system from scratch by inserting the XP/Vista CD/DVD and rebooting. I haven't bought a Dell in...well...forever...so they might not have shipped an actual OS CD/DVD. They usually ship you a blank CD/DVD and instruct you on how to make the recovery disks yourself. If you can't do this then go purchase a new copy of WinXP from Ebay and install.
