I want to share my experience with DeVry (I'm writting this in class at DeVry College of New York.) I'm an 8 year Marine Corps veteran, and I'm using my Post 9/11 GI BILL. When I was registered, I was told I could register in the Criminal justics specialization of the Technical Management Degree. So, I started to take criminal justice classes. A few months down the road, way after I'm already taking courses and having the paying for these classes, I was told by DeVry that I wasn't suppose to be in that degree program, because I wasn't in law enforcement. So, in other words, I was taken in to the program, I wasn't told about the prerequisites or checked to see if I was in law enforcement before putting me in the degree. It turned out that it was my academic advisors fault. I was forced to switch my specialization and I lost credits. In short, they put me in a degree that I wasn't even suppose to qualify for (per their policy) and then was forced out of that degree and in to something that I didn't even want to do, but was just so angry at the time that I just wanted to continue to finish my degree and went with a different specialization. Now, I'm being told that if I continue with this degree, I'll end up becoming an online student and will graduate with an online degree because no one told me about a "policy" that they have that states you can't take more than I think its 15 college credits online before you become an online student permenantly and won't be able to attend on site courses. To me, this hurts me fianancially, because in order for me to get 100% allowance for housing via post 9/11, I have to at least be on site for 1 class. If I continue, I'll lose out on a lot of money. I don't know if i should even try to fight this, because I think that it'll cost me more than what I'll gain.
