I am a returning professional to the university scene. But had attended two universities prior to moving to Decatur Georgia in 2005, a two year and a four year college, My status upon reach Georgia was a senior so I wanted to go ahead and complete my bachelors degree.
The closest university to me was DeVry University I inquired about returning to school with a DeVry intake rep in early 2007. I was assured at that time by this person that DeVry was my best choice because they had a specific program designed for returning adults that would last between a year or a year and a half because I was already a senior and had already bascially met all the required credit hours for their Technical Management program.
I took the bait, but as soon as I filled out all of the necessary paper work needed to attend I was told that there was no entrance counselors available but that the intake rep was very familiar with the Technical Management program and could assist me. I had not attened a university in 14 years and felt that it was very necessary for me to consult with an entrance counselor. To make a long story short I used the suggested intake rep and found out the next semester that I was enrolled in all the wrong classes that cost me $ 4410 and caused a stink about it. The situation goes down hill from this point foward I went through two and 1/2 deans, every available counselor to no avail.
Mean while back on the ranch DeVry's so called professionals were still enrolling me in classes not needed. I think I was being punished for asking questions. This make me more determined so I went upward and got the presidents involved and the fight intensified when in 2008 reasons were found for me not to graduate. Then in 2009 I was informed by the financial aid consultant that I would not be able to graduate from DeVry because I should have graduated in 2008 and that I had no more financial aid monies available. I demanded to see all of my financial records and was told that they did not provide this type information to their students.
My fight to get my records was finally over on April 24th 2010 after threating to get out side help involved I received detail records from both corporate and the Cobb Galleria location. I understand why I had to fight so long to receive my records because upon close inspection I found 10,030.15 in tution over charges and 16,515.26 in documented refunds that I did not receive.
After speaking with the president here in Georgia and notifying the corporate office of my findings I was told that the unreceived monies were direct deposited into my checking account I have documentation to dispute those claims and documentation to show tution over charges. I have made many request to meet with the director of finance here in Georgia and as of today have not been able to meet with this director even though I have been told by both the president and the corporate student affairs director that the Director of finance had been informed that I wanted to meet with her.

If you can truly support, with evidence, the claims you make about the over-payments and disappearing "refunds", you should contact an attorney. I think this is a good case of fraud, and it will be difficult, if not impossible, to fight it yourself. Good luck!
