Devry University Charged repeatedly for outstanding costs Calgary, Alberta

I enrolled at DeVry University to take classes online in September 2009. I was told the tuition would be just over $21,000 but my student loan would cover $17,000 of that. Everything went smoothly until the start of June 2010 when I received an email out of the blue saying that they had tried to contact me several times (which they hadn't) about an outstanding balance of over $11,000. I called and they explained that I had been sent cheques for my loans that should have been taken to the school and put towards my tuition. I took the cheques in and paid $8600 then arranged to pay the remaining amount (the $4000 or so that my loans didn't cover) by monthly payment. In order to achieve this, I spoke to three financial advisers, one of whom I emailed twice and called once and never heard back from. Another was very rude and didn't give me any explanation as to how I had not been notified earlier. All I was told was that my usual adviser was usually very good about keeping students informed about their financial situation.

Feeling that the situation was a misunderstanding and had been resolved, I made my first monthly payment of $600 and around the same time received a grant of $500 to be put towards my debt. This came to a total of $9700 paid to the school.

Today I received another email saying that I still owe over $8,000. Considering I was originally told that I would be paying $4000 from my own pocket, it seems a little strange that I have been asked for over $15,000 in the last two months.
