Have owned our timeshare with Diamond Resorts for well over a decade so.  We have visited every "nice" resort they have to offer in the US, so we decided to ask our children if they would want to inherit the timeshare.  They stated they couldn't afford the maintenance fees.

We offered it to our neighbors and some friends for $1.  They couldn't afford the maintenance fees.  See a pattern?

I contacted Diamond Resorts and told them I would like to sell back the timeshare for $1.  I was informed by a nice lady they didn't do that.  I can't use the timeshare, I can't "give it away" yet I'm supposed to maintain the property with fees that go up whenever they buy new properties -- and do this the rest of my life!!!  The nice lady said yes or they would sue me (it was put very nicely and apologetically).

The only way for me to use my timeshare again is to go to places I've already been, and my husband and I have a "policy" never to go the same place twice because of all the wonderful places the U.S. has to offer, and Diamond Resorts does not have locations in all of the rest of these places (some might, but condition of timeshares are not acceptable).

For the cost of just the maintenance fee, I can rent a whole house for a week in most places throughout the world.  The places I've checked out in Europe (popular destinations) have  wonderful rent houses, but no Diamond resort  can be found anywhere in a very broad area.

So, I'm to pay for services I'm not getting for the rest of my life or do something I don't want to do.  There is something terribly wrong with this.

I had a timeshare with another company and they bought it back for $10.  Their maintenance fees were half of what I'm paying for Diamond.

I'm in if there is an investigation, lawsuit, whatever against Diamond.  Their business policy stinks.  They have spread themselves too thin and are trying to recover through their members.

I want out and will pursue this until I get released.  If they treat me like this (excellent credit rating), what will they do next.   If this trend continues, I can see Diamond's reputation going down the drain.

Diamond Resorts Timeshare

AUTHOR: Dennis - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, December 16, 2014

We also had a timeshre with Diamond Resorts.  We donated our timeshare to Florida Veterans Assistance Association.  They assumed all responsibility for ownership and future fees.  We had to pay them, but they are a  501 (C-3) organization.    Their  phone (813) 249-4910, (800) 969-VETS, Fax (813) 290-8063  GOOD LUCK

Was there a satisfactory response from DRI?

I am an owner in DRI, and another unhappy one. I am wondering if you followed through with contacting DRI and if they solved your issue? Doubtful! Based on the portion of the 110 reports filed here and inforamtion on other sites i have reviewed, there are many, many unhappy owners - people are realizing there is a vast network of scams revolving around DRI including the internet sites tha offer resale and taking the points off your hands for a fee. I believe it is a many-branched scam system hurting many families who believed they were buying vacation opportunities, but were in fact being lured into a lifetime and beyond cycle of debt. Look forward to your reply, thank you.

Sure, you COULD sign up for ICE or Interval...

But they would charge you a convenience/transfer fee of several hundred dollars to use a timeshare in another destination, PLUS charge you for a yearly membership in that affiliated club, so it's just as much as paying the maintenance fees. Oh, and you still have to pay the maintenance fees for the property you signed up for originally. They are the worst kind of lying scum and I rue the day I signed up for their "deal." Sinkhole is right. i'm 100% vested and they won't let me surrender my property back for free because i can't afford their userous maintenance fees. We've dumped over $30K into this money trap so far and if you stumble upon a class action lawsuit against these people I'm definitely in as well

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Sympathize, they lied to us too.

AUTHOR: Cyndy deBruler - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, November 10, 2012

When we bought at Kaanapali Beach Club a few years back, we were told that the company would buy back our contract deed if we ever decided we wanted to sell and Diamond Resorts International was the only company that did this.  They did so because they wanted the company's points to maintain their value according to our sales person.  This year I have been unable to find any availability to use our points at this resort even in lowest travel times and even in last minute cancellation periods.  When I finally called the company to complain because we were going to lose our points with no vacation, gee, they suddenly had a room available that was not listed online.  Hmmm...  I asked why they had availability for cash purchases with ocean view at this resort but not for points, and was told that they maintained two inventories, another contradiction from what we were told when we bought that ANY inventory owned by Diamond Resorts was available to members if available for points.  Then I noticed that the points were higher than much nicer rooms had been in the week before.

The first person I talked with when I called to complain and get an explanation said they had the right to charge more points if availability was high at the resort.  The second person (a supervisor) said no that was incorrect, it was always half the points in the last 60 days before the reservation, but that our reservation was in a "Peak" period.  It is the week after Thanksgiving, hardly a peak period.   I asked about selling the deed back as we were still losing points at year end and was told that had never been the policy and that last year they discontinued allowing the customer to "surrender" the deed.  Because I mentioned the lies we were told and asked for a supervisor, she offered to transfer our points forward as an exception.  How can they legally do this?  They are full of lies and as they continue to sell to more people, availability becomes harder and harder to get except in Orlando or other less than desirable resorts.   Is there no attorney out there wanting to take them on for these mistruths and deceptions?  The fees go up and up, availability goes down as they oversell and there is no way out as promised.

It is truly unfortunate to hear that you are having difficulties with your ownership; however, we want to make sure that you are aware of all your opportunities for travel. Diamond Resorts International may not own properties in all the locations you want to go but makes them available to you through affiliations in THE Club, Interval International, or Travel Services.

We are unable to respond to your comments regarding maintenance fees as we are unable to identify your account based on this posting.

If you would like to discuss this or any aspect of your account further with our Hospitality Management department, we encourage you to email us at CustomerServiceSM@diamondresorts.com and reference this article.
