Dave B: Count yourself lucky that you won't have to listen to another sales pitch where you might be tempted to buy. We are owners of DRI timeshares in the Point at Poipu in Kauai, Hawaii and have been exposed to maintenance fees that have skyrocketed in addition to a water intrusion assessment of $12,000 that has us struggling to figure out how we are going to pay. Our timeshare weeks have become worthless. People can't even give them away because of the very high assessment that has been attached to it. Yes, people are willing to give away time that they spent tens of thousands of dollars for. That should tell you something about the investment.  BUYER BEWARE of any timeshare purchase. It can quickly turn your dream vacation into a nightmare. If you already knew this, congratulations;  if not, take your time before buying. We fell for the sales pitch many years ago that told us our maintenance fees would stay even with inflation, that the buildings were constructed properly (or, in the very least, that insurance or maintenance paid for by reserve funds they collected would take care of any problems) and that as owners we would be able to pass a wonderful real estate investment on to our children. None of it was true. Too bad for us.  It doesn't have to happen to you.
