I just returned from a scheduled three day stay at Los Abrigados Resort in Sedona, AZ. I cut my stay by one day because the room was so disgusting. I made a list of thirteen items ranging from filthy jacuzzi to dead insects on the dining room table. I also took pictures because I plan future legal action. When I checked into Los Abrigados, I was pressured by the concierge to attend an owner update and I refused. The pressure treatment started and I declined, but it took time and was unpleasant. When I got to my room, after an hour, I was called and the high pressure started all over again on the phone. I put them off as well after a time. The second day I was called again and it started all over again.

I started cataloging all that was a wrong with the room and the more I looked the more I found. This room was a "deluxe one bedroom" and I was being charged the equivalent of $300.00 a night in points. So I started taking pictures and listing the dirty grout, broken tile, filthy tub, dead bugs, filthy entry, etc. and decided to check out. When I went to the front desk, I was met with excuses and accusations that the whole problem was mine since I didn't allow them a chance to make it right. A property with this many problems is not something that can be easily fixed. The office manager at the front desk was extremely argumentative. Seems the standard line, is "I'm not making excuses, I'm trying to make you understand".

I doubt I'll ever go back to Los Abrigados. It was a terrible experience. I've been a member in good standing for years, as I took over a membership in ILX Premier Vacation Club from a relative as a favor.

Don't ever get anywhere near Diamond Resorts International. A business model like this will fail sooner or later. Sooner would be good. It's a sleazy operation with a fancy facade.

I have a friend that booked my final night in Sedona at Sedona Springs in West Sedona. A message to Diamond Resorts - if you were serious about giving value, and were a legitimate business, you would do business like Sedona Springs. For a property that has about the same maintenance fees as Diamond, Sedona Springs is head and shoulders above Diamond Resorts. The Sedona Springs property was one of the best accomodations I've ever had. It easily rivaled the Hilton Waikoloa Timeshare Condos in Hawaii.

It appears to me that Diamond Resorts International is milking their customer base for all they can, while spending as little as possible on maintaining properties. If they were serious, it would be relatively easy to spruce up the inside of the units, and apply some decent housekeeping. It looks like they are not serious about anything but bilking their members.

To reiterate, this is a business model that will fail, we just don't know when.

I am planning further action, but will not reveal it here. I don't want Diamond to know what's coming at them.

Los Abrigados buyer also duped

AUTHOR: Lisa thinks this is unfair practice - ()

POSTED: Monday, August 05, 2013

I also bought in Los Abrigados years ago and am appalled to find that there is no way out of the exponentially increasing maintenance fees without ruining my credit. It seems they are slipping through on some legal loophole, but this is not ethical and I do believe if enough people banded together some kind of class action lawsuit could help stop or at least reduce these practices. If nothing else maybe we can get the word out so fewer people buy into this scam. I really don't understand how it's legal for them to be able to increase fees at any rate they choose. I would love to be a part of a class action suit.
