Diet Power Don't Waste Your Time

I decided to try Diet Power recently, and this report is as much about the poor quality as time to be expected for my 30 day refund. This software (from the home page) looks like a pretty good fit for my needs. From the photos and the claims I figured I could not only meet my expectations but do so while enjoying the food I like.

Well it's kind of a complete scam, the program looks as old as my Commodore 64 and it's terribly cumbersome to use daily, so much so you totally loose interest in a week. Not to mention it's not really doing anything other than me inputting what I eat and counting calories. No one really needs to spend money to count calories, you can find all the information  your getting for free online. I think this company really is selling very old software and trying to lure people into an antiquated product that should not be for sale online at this point.

There are better programs out there for the same cost, the best one is actually free. I don't want to mention names though because this post is not about promoting a competitor, just informing people to not waste their time with this product it's terribly misleading.

I have asked for a refund and I'm awaiting the results.

Such a misguided complaint

AUTHOR: Long timeDietpower user - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, September 06, 2017

As a longtime user of dietpower I can state without a doubt that dietpower is a VERY powerful and accurate tool to set goals, track caloric intake and nutritional values of the food you eat and be guided precisely to your target weight. It worked exactly as designed for me. I lost 20lbs in EXACTLY the planned amout of time using Dietpower. That said using dietpower requires constat tracking of food intake and daily data input. One reason it worked well for me is that I chose to eat mostly whole foods (Fruit, nuts, Meat, Vegetables) and they are theeasiest to enter. Eating packaged, processed food requires enter their contents into Dietpower's  "Dictionary". It also helps to be computer savvy. The fact that you "lost interest after a couple of weeks" is the reason that you didn't get results. it is tedious and takes commitment to undertake any diet and using Dietpower takes an equal commitment. But if you use it meticulously you will absoloutly get the exact reslts from your diet plan as stated in the program.

Strongly Agree! DietPower is great!

AUTHOR: Mr. Wagner - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, February 05, 2014

For me, DietPower is the only product on the market that has what I have been searching for for so long.  Although I struggle with my weight (255 lbs, 6' 1" Male), nutrition has been what I have been desperate to balance.  Once I entered my favorite foods (which does take A LOT of time sincer there is no complete data base to import from) I figured out why I was always hungry, I was overeating and under-nourished.  DietPower takes care of this issue by tracking more nutrients than any other software out there (as of January 2014).  Tracking carbs, protiens, fats, etc. is not enough.  Thank you to whoever thought of this concept and for putting on the market at a cost people can afford.

I would like to see an IOS App or an on-line program so that I don't have to enter all of my info at home.  People's lives after work is busy with family activities.

An issue I have with the software is that I do have to create a recipe for almost every pre-packaged (frozen dinners, cereals, etc.) It gets so that I just eat the foods I have already entered.  Then I burn out on those foods and the data enty gets too time consuming to keep up.  Although, the issue may just be there is no central/master database available.  Even the USDA website doesn't have the Kashi frozen foods in there list.  Seems like a huge leap forward for human health if someone was  to legislate requiring all foods producers to enter their nutrition information into a central database.

Anyway.  WeightWatcher is WAY OFF!

DietPower Works

AUTHOR: BC - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, February 18, 2013

I have used DietPower for over 10 years off and on. I was able to lose 30 pounds at the rate of 1 pound a week, and keep the weight off for over 9 years. I agree that the interface is dated and sometimes difficult to learn, but the science is there. It automatically calculates your metabolic rate to keep accuracy over your diet cycle. If you set up custom foods and recipes for the foods you routinely eat, it only takes a few minutes a day to keep the food/exercise log.

DietPower's best benefit for me was in training me how to eat healthy. When I analyzed my diet, it showed that I was getting too much sodium and not enough potassium and magnesium. I was able to rebalance my diet by consulting the food database and making some simple changes.

I would like to see the program updated to work on tablets (IOS and Android). The current interface has some quirks, but most people who complain just don't bother to read the tutorial first.

DietPower does have one unique feature

AUTHOR: MissyMe - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, September 02, 2012

I realize that at first glance it might seem like Diet Power offers the same thing as other fee services out there, but I found none that would "discover" your metabolic rate and tell you when to adjust your calories. It also has a much wider variety of foods and gives more detailed nutritional information than the free programs. I personally lost over 40 lbs using the program (eg recording my foods religiously) and felt it was worth the small amount paid.

DietPower is the only software that has ever consistently worked for me.

AUTHOR: Spartanicus - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 16, 2012

The original complaint is absurd.  The user who filed it clearly spent so little time with DietPower that he didn't know how it works.  I've used the software for more than ten years, and DietPower is the only package that has allowed me to consistently meet my weight and nutritional goals.  It is extraordinary software, and I've not found a single service on the web, for my desktop, or for a mobile device that can replace it.

DietPower takes me very little time each day to record my food and exercise, and it maintains a running calculation of my metabolic rate and adjusts my caloric needs based on what it knows to keep me on track for loosing, gaining, or maintaining my weight.  If I consume too few calories, the extras are placed in a calorie bank so that the next time I consume too many, I can draw the extras from the bank.  This is incredibly helpful psychologically -- I never feel like I've blown my diet.

The package also keeps excellent track of my nutritional needs, and I can quickly see where I need to improve my nutrients, or where I get too much fat, or where I could get more protein.  I play competitive team Tennis, and the software helps me maintain my fitness excellently.

I work an IT job I use and design data entry tools, and DietPower's data entry mechanism is excellent and very fast.

I agree that the software hasn't been updated in a long time - it would be great to see an update.  A means of managing my DietPower information over the web and through a mobile app would be a big improvement too.  I'm less interestedin crowd sourcing nutritional information on foods (as so many services do) because the crowd-sourced data tend to be pretty messy.

But even without improvement, DietPower will remain my goto package for managing my diet and weight.  I've used many other tools over the years to see how they compare, and they simply don't: DietPower is the only tool I've used that ALWAYS allows me to achieve my weight goals.

It still surprises me how effective it is.

- Another extremely supportive and devoted customer.

Diet Power Works and is Easy to Use

AUTHOR: Anonymous Very Happy Customer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, January 06, 2012

I believe the initial compaint report is completely false, misleading, and just plain wrong.

I have used Diet Power and am very happy with the results.  It is easy to use, and if you are diligent in using it you will 100% acheive your goals.

As the owner indicated, it adjusts for changes in your metabolism.  For instance, as you loose weight, you are carrying less around in just your daily activities and you therefore use less energy in your daily metabolism.  Diet Power adjusts for that as you enter accurate data and your daily weight.

In my case, I used Diet Power over a 3 month period to reach my goal and it was amazing to see the accuracy of the progress line over time.

It's a great product and any claim otherwise is false and misleading.

Thanks,
Happy Customer

Weight Watcher's review of DietPower

AUTHOR: Terry Dunkle - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 21, 2011

In 23 years at DietPower, I don't think I've seen a review more misleading than this one.

DietPower is the only nutrition software on the market that offers a one-year, no-questions-asked, no-hassle,  100% money-back guarantee -- including tax and shipping. We generally credit refunds back to the customer's card on the same day we receive the request. Our refunds are NOT limited to 30 days, as Weight Watcher states.

The phrase "complete scam" implies that we are somehow tricking people out of their money or delivering a product that doesn't perform as advertised. Nothing could be farther from the truth. We do not require a credit-card number or even an email address for downloading our free 15-day trial. The free trial is the complete program, not a limited version of the product. If you don't like the program, there is nothing to cancel or return.

In other words, when we say there is "no risk" in trying or buying DietPower, we really mean it.

Our generous refund policy is no accident. DietPower's founder is a national award-winning journalist and consumer advocate who has crusaded against scams, quackery, and hype in the health industry for 40 years. Our slogan is "We're Not That Kind of Company(TM)," meaning that we don't do business the way (sadly) the average Internet-based company does today.

We are also the only company in our business that offers free technical and customer support by phone or email every minute of every day of the year -- by Nice People(TM) who speak flawless English and use our software themselves.

Yes, you can get SOME of what DietPower does for free online -- but you'll have to look at ads, receive annoying emails, put up with errors introduced into the food database by other users, worry whether your health privacy has been compromised, and spend 15 or 20 minutes a day logging your foods, instead of five minutes. Tests show that DietPower is by far the fastest food logger on the market -- not only because it resides safely on your own hard drive, but also because our Smart Search technology remembers your favorite foods and puts them at the top of your Found lists. As a result, after a few weeks' use, you will almost never have to scroll.

Unlike DietPower, online programs CAN'T guarantee reaching your goal weight on your target date, because they don't continually adjust your calorie budget by monitoring changes in your metabolism. DietPower is the only program with this advanced feature. (If you prefer a constant calorie budget, however, you can choose that instead.)

In addition, DietPower is the only program that continually shows which of your favorite foods will best improve your overall nutrition if eaten next. It is also the only program that calculates a single Nutrition Quotient (NQ) indicating how smart an eater you are.

Weight Watcher claims that our program does nothing more than "counting calories." 'Beg to differ: DietPower also gives you real-time knowledge of your intake of 33 nutrients important to preventing or fighting heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and birth defects -- and improving athletic performance. It also tracks calories burned in 1000 kinds of exercise, analyzes and doctors recipes, offers daily nutrition news and features from national award-winning editors, lets you meet like-minded dieters online, gives you daily inspiration tailored to your health interests -- and a lot more.

Weight Watcher calls our program "antiquated." While it's true that our non-nonsense, super-efficient user interface may look old-fashioned to some, the program is years ahead of competitors in functionality -- and has been so ever since we invented this field in 1988. Our most recent update was published just two days before Weight Watcher published her misleading review. DietPower was also the first program (as far as we can tell) to revise its Recommended Dietary Allowances to reflect the U.S. Food and Nutrition Board's new standards for vitamin D and calcium.

One final word: Weight Watcher claims that our program is so cumbersome "you totally loose [sic] interest in a week." Although counting calories by logging your foods is by far the most reliable way to lose weight (ask any mainstream physiologist), and although DietPower enables you to do this more easily than any other program does, not everyone has the perseverance or intelligence required to do it.

Whatever alternative method Weight Watcher has decided to use, we wish him or her well, and hope that the chosen method is truly science-based. (Best way to make certain: look for reviews on medically reputable sites such as WebMD.com, EatRight.org, or Nutrition.gov -- or ask a registered dietitian.)
