Careful:  Digikey.com lists its parts in the quantities and packaging it receives from its suppliers and does not state the actual quantity you're buying when you submit an order.  In no place does it clearly specify what quantity you're actually purchasing.

For example:  http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/SG2003J-883B/1259-1081-MIL/3724292

At the time of this post, that page only says the packaging is "tube" and shows a price that might seem reasonable for a bulk order of this product.  To someone who doesn't know that this product actually costs nearly 70 times as much per-unit for the military-grade version, it's not hard to be confused into thinking you are purchasing a tube when you are actually purchasing a single chip that's normally worth less than a dollar.

This happened to me.  I brought the issue to their customer service, mainly requesting they consider updating their listing to clearly state the quantity being purchased is a single chip.  I took the time to write several detailed e-mails answering their questions about how I thought the site was misleading, but, contrary to what I've heard about their customer service being outstanding, I felt they (multiple reps) took a very stubborn attitude of infallibility.  I felt like they just think I'm crazy for thinking "1" (without any units specified) could mean anything other than "1 chip" when the only unit mentioned on the site is "tube", and it's obvious to me they have absolutely no intent to so much as consider adding this bit of clarification to their site.

They refuse to accept it for return since their policy is that mil spec parts cannot be returned, although they declined to explain why they have that policy and refused to make an exception, further leaving me wondering what others see in their customer service.

My intent in posting this is merely to caution others from making the same mistake.

Quantity is clearly listed

The order quantity for your part is clearly listed on the second line of the second table on the web page you referenced.

I have been ordering from Digikey for over 10 years now, and I can honestly say, that although some of their items can be expensive, they are very clear about how many you will get when you order a part.

I have also never had a problem with Digikey's customer service.  My orders, and I have placed many hundreds, are always shipped quickly and can arrive the next day -- there are a multitude of shipping options, and it *is* up to you to choose the one that works for you: some are expensive and can get your parts to you the next morning and some are less expensive if you are willing to wait a few days.

Parts arrive well packaged and if by chance you get the wrong one (this has happened to me only a very few times in ten years, and the correct part has alwways been shipped out overnight at Digikey's expense) their customer service (based in MN, I believe) is courteous, knowledgeable and definitely on top of the issue.

I have never had a problem with Digikey: good company, great people, excellent selection of parts at reasonable prices.  I have been dealing with them for 10 years, and will continue to do so, because they do their job well and are a pleasure to deal with.
