I have been working at this company for a little over 6 months and have finally figured out Dillard's secret. Money. This company cares about sales and sales alone. Working on the floor is a shark tank among store associates. Management cares about the customers more than they care about us. Why? Because the customers spend!

All of our performance reviews are based on our SPH, or sales per hour. They don't pay attention to how you present yourself at the company, how well you keep your area clean, or the good things the customers may have said about you. Receiving a pay cut or pay raise depends on your sales. There are many months during the year where the store is dead and there are next to no customers to sell merchandise to. If your SPH dips down, so does your pay. Regardless of circumstances.

To keep my identity anonymous, I won't state which department I work in. This particular department focuses on multiple item sales, and basically sabotaging customers to buy more. One thing that particularly gets under my skin is the return policy. It is clearly stated on the back of receipts and in my opinion should be followed. Not at all. I've had people return things that are falling apart, washed, disgusting and worn, and even items more than 3 years old. They will return anything for anyone, in any condition.

All in all, I wish they were a company that truly valued its employees. This particular store is severely understaffed either due to associates being fired for unethical reasons, or people realizing what Dillard's is up to and getting up and leaving. It's their own fault. Beware of working at Dillard's.

Dillards Bites

AUTHOR: C.F.J. - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, January 14, 2014

Few years back, I stopped at the dillards at La Cantera in San Antonio on a Sat. afternoon on my way home from work. They were having their sale and I bought 5 polo shirts at 50% off. As I'm leaving, the sales associate tells me they're having another big sale on Thur. and I ought to stop by. Go by on Thur. and they have the shirts at another 40% on top of the 50%. From $64 to $32 to $19.20. I buy another 5 shirts, then ask the same associate what about the 5, I bought on Sat. She tells me there is nothing she can do. They received an e-mail that if they make price adjustments, they're fired. I asked her to please call the manager. Some 30 year old airhead blond comes down and tells me. IF I still have the tags attached to the shirts AND the receipt, I can return them and buy them at the lower price. I explain that I purchased them 5 days earlier, took them to the cleaners, but still have the tags and receipt. She tells me there is nothing she can do for me, but IF I want to call the (real) manager tomorrow, MAYBE, there is something HE can do for me. Call on Fri. and the (real) manager isn't there but speak with the acting manager. She's a real b***h. She tells me "that if they gave EVERYBODY a refund, they wouldn't be in business". I thought about it later and thought, IF you don't have any CUSTOMERS, you won't be in business. She was a rude, obnoxious b***h. I told her I'd been in retail for over 30 years.

You have stores like; kohl's, sears, JC Penney's, all will take almost anything back, with or without a receipt. Now we're talking $60 difference. I would have been satisfied with a store credit or a gift card. They wouldn't have had to give me ANY money back. But NO, she was going for any of it. After talking with the witch, I e-mailed the corp. office. They said they'd have the dist. manager call me. The following Mon. someone claiming to be the manager called and left a msg at the house. I never gave them my home number just the office' cause I'm here 6 days a week. I use to spend $3 to 5 thousand a year at dillards and these fools have pissed me off and lost a customer FOR $60. HOW DUMB CAN YOU BE? You spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in ADS trying to bring people into your stores and you piss 'em off FOR $60? HOW DUMB CAN YOU BE? And this post thinks they value their customers. I THINK NOT!

Somebody needs a new job...

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

According to you they are a RETAIL business that focuses on the customer, and has polices that favor the customer.  Where it bases the salesperson pay based on how much they sell.   Unless I missed something, this sounds exactly like the job description of someone who works in retail sales.  So please tell us again how exactly this is a RipOff?

In readin this all I have to say is welcome to the Real World.  If these things bug you that much, perhaps Retail sales isn't your thing.  Looks like a good office job may be more to your liking.  Of course your boss there will probably based your pay on how much you file or how many calls you can handle a day.

Oh and just a hit for the future.  If you want to keep your identity secret..you probably shouldn't use your name, so have a nice day Makaila from Spanish Fork.
