The Irving Mall Dillards Department Store is the most abusive situation I have ever experienced. I took the job because I was in between jobs during the whole 9/11 thing with everyone losing their jobs. I thought, it can't be that bad.....it's Dillards! I worked in Men's suits and tailored clothing. First, I had an alcoholic manager come up to me and yell at me for not calling customers.....then got so mad...shook his fists at me and looked like he was going to hit me. I filed a complaint and asked them to look at the video from the camera.....well, needless to say the camera wasn't on us that day....and it was a he said, she said type of affair.

About those cameras....one of the sales associates put a mint in her mouth, and the phone rang near the register...it was a manager. He asked her if that tasted good...and to spit it out. If you are following this situation....he was watching her on the camera.

I was yelled at in two situations by a manager to "Get in my area", and "you have not been released"....When I say the word yell, I mean yell....and what is this released crap....like an animal.

On the sales per hour thing, I thought it was wrong and I wrote a letter, had many employees sign it and sent it to one of the Dillards..I was called into the managers office and she said she spoke with Mr. Dillard and he would be getting with me on my concerns....this Never happend. How do you make these high, insane quotas when we had NO CUSTOMERS coming into the store? Out of the entire store only a hand full were making their quota. The rest were recieving pay cuts on top of pay cuts.

And, my last little comment about the Irving Mall Dillards, is on the time clock...you may not clock in early....you may not clock in late...so you have to stand by the time clock to punch in, to be right on time...if you are late or early...even if you were in the store, it counts against you. That's how people get "tardies". Not that they are coming in late....it's that time clock thing and standing by it watching minutes go by so you can punch in and not get into trouble.

So, being a counselor as my career and choosing to work for Dillards in a time when people couldn't find a job....If I could do it all over again....I would rather starve to death then work for a company that uses fear as it's motivation...and managers that yell and talk down to their employees.

I worked for a Dillard's in an entirely different state and had almost these exact same problems.

The store manager was horrible. Her method of "managing" her store was humiliating employees, often in front of customers. I understand that retail has a high turn over as far as associates go, but managers? I worked for this company for 4 months and in that time period, they had to replace all but two of the area sales managers.

The time clock is ridiculous. You are allowed 8 tardies, you are fired on the 9th. When I was first hired. I thought "Wow, that seems like a lot. I've never worked for a company that allowed that many tardies." I soon found out why. You are marked tardy for clocking in early. If you clock in early from lunch, it will simply not clock you in at all and when you go to clock out at the end of the night, it actually clocks you back in and that's another tardy. There's also the fact that they don't inform you of any of this until after you've received 4 tardies and then they make you sign a piece of paper that says you are aware of the tardies. Instead of taking them away because you were not informed, they say "Leanr from it" and you are stuck with them for 6 months. There were times that I had to call in sick because I could afford more absences than tardies.
