I wanted a specific Mazda and had done my online homework. Mid April on a Saturday, I contacted DD via email asking if they had this specific car or if I would need to order from the factory (I was happy to do this). I was sent a reply saying that they found the car I wanted at another dealership out of state and could have the car sent here (saving me time from ordering from the factory). I went down to the dealership that day bringing all my paperwork to get started on purchasing the car. The sales person I worked with was nice and pretty laid back. At first I thought this to be a positive for me as I was anxious to have to deal with a pushy sales person (in the end I found this to be a detriment in getting a car bought.) I made it clear that I wanted to trade in my current vehicle and take advantage of the Mazda loyalty discount as I already own a Mazda (not the vehicle I was trading in). I made it clear to the sales person that I wanted this all handled prior to my vacation in mid May. He assured me that he had a vehicle and that a couple of the items I wanted were not on the car but could be done at the dealership when it arrived. I was ready to sign the paperwork then I was told that the dealership that had the car was too busy to speak to DD about the car. I was told by the sales person to come back on Monday and sign paperwork. I called on Monday and the sales person told me that the other dealership still had not called them about the transfer of the car and to call back on Tuesday. I called back on Tuesday and was told that the other dealership required DD to make an appt to call them about the car transfer. This was to take place on Wednesday (this is when I begin to wonder if DD could really get this done). I get a call at 6PM on Wednesday evening from the sales person saying that the other dealership decided not to sell DD the car but that he had great news. He had been looking while waiting on the other dealership and had found another car that could be sent to DD. He asked if I could come in on Thursday to sign paperwork. I asked if I could make an appt for Thursday morning at 10:30am so that it would give me time to go to the bank to get the money for the car (still wanting to get this done before I leave on vacation). The next day I get to DD at 10:25 and then had to sit in the lobby until 10:45 before I was taken to the finance department. Upon being taken over to finance, I was given a tour of the service department facility. Then I was introduced to a gentleman that does aftermarket work on your vehicle (did not have an appt with him). While I was waiting I overheard the finance guy give the sales person a hard time about why I wasn't financing the car through them instead of my credit union. Finally at 11:15 (almost an hour past my appt time) the finance guy is talking me through the paperwork. He then tries to sell me all the "extra's" that my sales person didn't go over like an undercoating for my car, extended warranty etc. During this my bank calls me to ask if I would like to add extended warranty to the loan. The warranty through the bank was $600 cheaper and was a 7 year warranty not a 5 year warranty and covered the same items. When I hung up I asked the finance guy to take off the extended warranty as I was purchasing from my bank. He was pushy and rude and said that the warranty my bank was offering wasn't the same and wasn't as good. I said I still did not want his warranty so he reprinted the Purchase Order without the warranty and threw the previous purchase order in the trash can. I asked him why he did that and doesn't he have a shredder. He laughed and said he would shred it later, I said no give me the paper. (that was my second clue this place was horrible but I am a nice person and just figured dealing with this man was a temporary displeasure that would soon be over with). I am finally done with Finance at 11:55am and know I am going to be late getting to the bank. On the way back to the showroom from the finance building my sales person asks about adding splashguards to the car. I said that sounded great. Have the finance guy add it to the PO and refax to my bank so they have it for the closing. I get to the bank....close on the loan. A week after this day (another Thursday) the car still has not arrived. I was told there was a mix up at the port and the car went to a dealership in Portland. My sale person was having help from the sales manager to get their own driver to go out and pick up. At the latest I would have my car on Saturday. Saturday comes....I text my sales guy twice with no answer. Then his boss calls me and says that the other dealership sold my car. (Ok...I am gluten for punishment so I ask ... when will you guys get me a car.) I had a check waiting to give them and no car to pay for. I was told at 8pm Saturday evening that he found yet another car and it would be sent out directly to DD from the port. I was promised that my bank and insurance would be contacted first thing Monday morning with the new PO for the car. Monday morning came and I contacted both my bank and insurance agent to see if they got a call from DD (this was at 11:30am). No call to either place. I called the Sales Mgr back and asked why he didn't follow through with contacting my bank and insurance agent as he said he would. He had excuses of meetings or something and my thought is that his dealership has already screwed this customer and he is going to make it worse by going to a meeting? PO sent to my bank and I called at 4PM that day to find out when the car would be here on the lot. He told me Wednesday. I asked if he was drop dead certain and he said yes. I told him I would hold him to his word. Wednesday came and no car. To make matters worse the PO sent to my bank was 400 too much (splash guards that didn’t get to my bank in time for close and was to be given to me for free for my troubles). Thursday morning came still no car and lots of excuses. My patience was finally gone and I told them to sell it to someone else. Everything happens for a reason is what I am told. I may be lucky this fell through. I have read other folks’ troubles with these guys. I am surprised they are even in business. This was the worst experience in buying a car ever. This would have been my 5th new car purchase. Stay away from DD unless you are in for a lot of double talking and wasting time and money.

I wish to amend my report...

AUTHOR: Dissatified - ()

POSTED: Friday, May 10, 2013

I would like to amend my report initially filed.  Although the statments I made were accurate, I would like to add that since I placed my initial report, the sales person I initially dealt with contacted me trying to make it right with my purchase.

I recognize that the issues Dennis Dillon had with securing the car that I wanted to purchase was not 100% their problem but in fact was with Mazda itself according to the dealership.  I have agreed to purchase the car that finally arrived.  I appreciate the diligence of my sales person and truly appreciate his follow throughj in getting this done.

Even though this was the worst experience in purchasing a car, what my sales person has done has made me a satisfied customer.
