Direct TV Charging early termination fees when service cannot be provided at new residence. El Segundo, California

Something needs to be done about cable tv providers charging early termination fees when the subscriber moves to a location that will not allow their equipment to be placed on their new dwelling! 
 
When we found out we were relocating for work, we contacted Direct TV, who put our account on suspension until we moved into our new home. 
 
We moved to a new home for a  job relocation - my husband is a 30-year federal firefighter.  A technician from Direct TV came out to our new home and determined the only "line of sight" would require the satellite dish to be attached to the home.  Our landlord will not allow anything to be attached to this home.  As well, the HOAs in this community are strict on where you can and cannot put a satellite dish. 
 
After being told by two Direct TV representatives that this would not be a problem (cancelling out account without being charged a fee), I received a bill for a $300 cancellation fee.  After speaking with a customer service rep, then being placed on hold for over 30 minutes to speak with a supervisor, I was not only told that there was nothing they could do, but the supervisor then acted as if he could not all of a sudden hear me, and then hung up on me.
 
These contracts should be forbidden, or at least amended!  Many people move for legitimate reasons and heavily penalized for these contracts they are forced to sign to be able to receive cable service.  It seems synonymous with an autocracy!
