I called to report that the receiver I had was receiving free Playboy programing, not wanting this on my TV being a single parent with 3 teen age boys, and with the failure of direct TV to fix the problem on their end I was told I would be sent a replacement receiver. After 2yrs of their Hi-def programing and being dissatisfied with their service, and pulling programs I originally started with making them part of another program to buy, I decided it was time for them to go.

After getting Dish installed I called to cancel and was told that I had to pay an early termination charge, reason being I was sent a new receiver, and was re-obligated to an additional two years, they said they told me, what a lie, I remember things like that, besides here I am coming forth and telling them I'm receiving free programing, think they would appreciate that, not Direct TV. Wrote them several letters, may as well be writing nobody, did absolutely no good, was sent a bill stating payment due on receipt. Paid it to kept my credit in good standing, never again will I do buisness with Direct TV.

Catch-22

AUTHOR: Inspector - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 07, 2008

Anytime a new or replacement receiver is sent to a customer a new 2 year committment incurs with it (18 month for standard receiver). Unfortunatly this is always the case unless an agreement beforehand is made with direct tv. I do not have satelite tv only cable but I have thourghly read their contract and decided against it.

1. I looked all over the directtv.com website within the FAQs and the entire site and I could not find why they extended your equipment lease agreement for another two years after your requested a receiver replacement.

2. Premium channels and pay-per-view shows must be ordered. I have cable TV and I have never had satellite TV, but I am pretty sure you cannot watch premium programs without ordering them and thus I believe there was nothing wrong with your original receiver.

Order Playboy TV a la carte for $9.99 for 4 hours or sign up for a monthly subscription for only $8 more at $17.99 per month. Billing is always discreet. Channels or titles will not appear on your bill.

3. If you were not charged for the Playboy channel, you should have just put a parental block on the channel.

Can I control what my kids watch?

The Parental Controls feature, which is built into the equipment, lets you restrict access to movies based on the motion picture rating system. You can also add Pay Per View spending limits and block the viewing of entire channels. This is a great feature for parents who wish to control what their children watch. Consult your system manual for more details.

4. Boys will be boys. I am sure your boys have seen or will see a naked breast before the age of eighteen. They can always look up pictures of breasts, nude women and actual pictures of sexual intercourse without costs on the internet. Their older friends can always buy copies of Playboy, Penthouse and the more extreme Hustler. You are pretty naive to think you can protect your teenage boys from the pervasive nature of sex in today's society. I was able to look up pictures of Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears both without underwear.

Send a complaint to the Attorney General's office in your state and the state where DirecTV's corporate offices are located.

File complaints with the Better Business Bureau in both areas. BBB won't help you but at least it will be on file.

DirecTV has a reputation for doing anything to make the big bucks and they love to try to nail you if you change to a better service.
