I switched from "the Cable company" to DirectTv and AT&T internet service.  (a)I was very firm in the final cost of the monthly service.  (b)I was very clear on the installatin cost (c)I was very clear on the type of internet service wanted.  The internet installer was slow, sloppy, and didn't seem to know what to do.  Said we needed to install a "dedicated" line for the internet to work properly, but made it work, for the time being.  Right away, the service failed, a service tech came out, said he had to "downgrade our profile" so that the system would function better.  Meanwhile, the dish installer came, and was very professional, clean and did a great job.  As a week or so went by, the internet kept failing, another service tech came out, complained about the installation, and rewired the system, saying we did not need a dedicated line (and as it turned out, our old duel telephone system could act as a dedicated line anyway.  We asked if we could now upgrade to the original speed, of which he confirmed we were downgraded, he said we would have to call customer service as he could not do this without a work order to do so.  As my first full bill came in, the installation fees were abominable .  I spoke to customer service, who also couldn't figure out their charges and credits, and after a while decided they were correct.  I bit the bullet, and said okay, and asked what the monthly charge would be.  She indicated some absurd number of which I told her so.  The first "clean" monthly bill has arrived, and after all of that, it is still over $20 more than indicated, in addition, they want more money to bring me back to the original requested speed, which would make it almot $50 more than originally agreed.  I'm sorry to say, I have 2 years of this, but will be assured this will be ripped out of the house as soon as these contracts expire.  Also, to note, the internet service cannot even stream DirectTV movies or playback.  The DISH reception goes out when the weather is bad, but we knew this.
