DirecTV I am being charged for NFI Sunday that I did not order Atlanta, Georgia

I just realized that I am paying $53.00 for NFI via DirecTV for a promotional package from a year ago. I agreed to the package via phone for the movies with NFI Sunday and cancelled quickly thereafter when the promote was finished. That time period was free. What I didn't know was the NFI was self renewing annually and I didn't have to give consent. DirecTV states that sent a notice a month before it started this year and if I didn't cancel it then, they are unable to cancel. Another words, I have to pay $53.00/mo. without recourse. I do not routinely read every promotional mail or email as I would not have time to do anything else. Yet, without permission they are legally allowed to do this. I did convince them to cancel for next year, but they refuse to cancel this year. What do you think, do I have any recourse to cancel and/or recoup my loss for this year. I never watch this!!!
