Placed an order for a sofa and loveseat over the phone after vieiwng the online store's "in-stock" goods and on-line reviews. Some reviews mentioned rip-off and scam but the majority were positive. However, hind-sight we suspect the positive reviews were most likely employees. The store salesman estimated a 4 week delivery due to the time of year. December 2016. The price was really good in comparison to local walk-in stores, so we were okay with the wait. The first week of January 2017, the saleman sends an email saying the item is backordered so it would be delayed for a couple of weeks. We thought the goods were in-stock per the website, but "Okay".
As promised, we received an email in the second week of February saying the items have been shipped and we should expect delivery. At that time, the store proceeded to charge my credit card the full amount. Shortly there after we recieved a phone call stating the items were going to be delivered on a date certain. The date comes, I take off work to be available. No delivery, instead I receive a call saying the sofa has holes in it. They were sending it back to the manufacturer and would ask that it be expedited.
Two weeks later I inquire upon the status. The saleman apologized and said they are still working out the details with the manuafcturer. Keep in mind my card has been charged and the return policy of the store states, "After placing an order, you can cancel at no charge for any reason within 24 hours. Orders may be returned or cancelled within 15 days of receipt for a refund equalling the purchase price minus both a 30% restocking fee and round-trip shipping and handling costs. These costs are deducted from the refund, regardless of whether you were you were originally invoiced for shipping or if the costs were discounted or free." Once the order is placed and 24 hours has passed, the restock fee and delivery costs back to the manuafacturer will easily be the entre bill. We didn't want this hassle of arguing the policy, so we again said okay. But we were defintely suspicious that this was probably a scam. I filed a dispute with my credit card company, which made a huge difference in the stress. They removed the charges immediately. I disclosed my concerns to the salesman and demanded that they prove to me that they were not scamming me. They offered to deliver the loveseat, while we continued to wait on the sofa. I agreed and the loveseat was delivered as promised.
A month later I received an email saying the sofa was ready for delivery. Soon thereafter I received a call scheduling the delivery. The day of delivery, again I received another call saying the second sofa has holes in it. They were sending it back to the manufacturer. Through email I gave the salesman three options---- delivery the undamaged sofa within 2 weeks, make arrangements with a lcoal store and pay for it, or issue a refund for the cost of the sofa. Through a back and forth discussion, the salesman reluctantly agreed to a refund without assessing a restock or shipping fee. I sent the email to my credit card company. My card company was terrific! Through the ordeal, the card company attempted to follow up with the store via three-way calls, but the store gave the card company the run around. The card company indicated to me the stores behavior appeared consistant with a scam. They backed me all the way. Every two weeks the card company would follow up. Early on, I noticed the salesman wouldn't reply to my emails in a string, he would reply in a new email breaking the chain. So in my replies to him, I copied and pasted my previous emails reincorpating the conversation.
Lessens learned, I will never order big furniture from an online store again. The Scam---- no furniture is in stock, even though their website continues to say the exact products are in stock to this day. And their return policy, I am convinced if I had not had the involvement of my card company they would have ripped me off. Once the order is placed, 24 hours passes, and you are notified the items are in transit, you are at their mercy. The other rip-off compaints observed were very similar. My four week order took 5 months, and I only received half of the order. I subsequently purchased the sofa from a local walk-in store, at a slightly higher price, but with no wait or fear of a scam.
