I am moving and decided to get dish network. I called and the lady was really nice and told me their offers. She said what they have is "FREE" installation. Notice I said free not waived. And the service was a lot cheaper than cable so we went ahead and signed up for an installation date. She told me "NOTHING" was going to be billed to my credit card but they needed it to verify everything. All is well and I'm excited to get the service especially since they were so nice. A couple days later I checked my bank account online and noticed 49.99 charged to my credit card. I than called and got a forgein person who said it was an installation fee. I told him they said there was no fee. He said yes there is a fee but we "WAIVE" it on the first months bill. But sir, I said thats not what I was told. Than he says well I'm not seeing any notes on that. So after a few minutes of argueing I asked if I cancel will I get my refund. Yes, he said. So I hung up called my cable company and they gave me a very good deal so I set up service with them. I than called back cancelled with Dish Network work and they of course asked why and I said because you guys lied to me. She than transferred me to the refund department and again very nice and she isssued me a refund. All is well I received my refund. That is until on 6-26-06 charged me a 49.99 cancellation fee. This was never told to me on the phone!!!!!!!!!!! So, I called the number on the charge and talked to Philip (he is from overseas) and told him my situation. He put me on hold and said he contacted the refund department and they would issue my refund but he couldn't give me a confirmation number because they refund department wasn't available but he left them a message. So, I contacted my credit card company and I'm disputing the charge and I'm now telling every my story so they stear clear of Dish Network/Dish Pronto. I even filed a complaint with my states attorney office as well.

I was just reading some of these posts on the competition. I just got done replying to someone with kind of the same problem. I will assume that you did not have a dish ad from a news paper and that you only talked to them over the phone with no literature. If that is so then read one of their ads when you get on in the mail , but I don't want you to read all of the big fancy lettering just read the fine print and you will see exactly what you have described on your post, You are supposed to get it installed free but have to pay a 49.99 activation fee and then the 49.99 will be credited back to your acct with a 18 month or more commitment or agreement , and it also states that the prices, programming, and packages are subject to change without notice. Now that doesn't sound like a very good deal to me no matter how much it is. You should be able to cancel it when ever you want with out being charged a big fee to do so.

Misunderstanding

AUTHOR: Malcolm - (U.S.A.)

I suppose strictly speaking it is free if they rebate your it on your first bill, which is what they did for me. I know it is a marketing gimmick to call something free when you have to lay money out.

I have my own issues with Dish, and have a complaint posted also but you should keep in mind that the service is a prepaid service so splitting hairs as to whether you are paying for the first month of service, or whether it was a deposit credited on your first bill put you through unnecessary agravation for no real reason.

It would be a hassel for them to have people cancelling, or missing installation appointments, but I understand your frustration, and agree they and their resellers especially, should reword it. Their retailers are paid by commission from Dish so they especially will push the limits on the truth to make the sale.
