Let's start off by me admitting I was irresponsible with the initial problem, but DISH NETWORK trumped my irresponsibility with there deplorable customer service and business practices. Now that that's out of the way let me begin.
It was late July or early August 2011 and my subscription to dish network was interrupted. I was on vacation when it was shut off because of a past due amount (which I take full responsibility for, just slipped my mind). Upon returning I learned of the dissconnect and called up Dish. After going through the never ending automated system and finally reaching a real life person I asked what the amount would be to get my services restored. The very friendly, eager to help CSR (whom spoke very little english) told me it was $117.00 and my services would be restored upon payment. So I told them I would call back and make the payment in a little bit. 10 minutes later I called back. Sifted through the system and got an agent, let them know the situation and paid the amount due for restoration of services. All was well. Within 10 minutes my service was back on and everything was back to normal. So I thought.....
Again my tv was disconnected, so I called the tech support line. After being on hold this time for somewhere around 20 minutes I was finally patched through to an agent who I thought could help. I informed them that I had just made a payment and they restored my service, but it was shut off again. Something must be wrong on their end. The agent and I sat in silence for a couple minutes and he put me on hold. After he came back on the line he informed me that yes I payed the past due amount but they needed another $175.00 to restore services again. I disagreed with him and informed him that 2 seperate CSR's which both told me the original amount would restore my services. He said he understood that they told me that, but they were mistaken. It would cost another $175.00 to get them back on. I was quickly filling up with anger, so I calmed down and asked for a supervisor. Now I don't know how long it takes to "find" a supervisor at this place but I was on hold for over 20 minutes until he finally got on the phone. Now mind you this was a supervisor, he spoke broken English and obviously the CSR did not inform him on anything so I had to tell him everything again. I let him know that I was LIED to by the previous CSR's and they took my money and told me they would restore my service, Only for it to be shut off again not even 15 minutes later. He apologized and said that yes they might have told me that but in order to get the tv back on they needed next months payment. Now as rediculous as DISH NETWORKS billing system is (billing is a month in advance) I understood the rules, and said this isn't about past due amount now, its about principle. The company reps already told me paying a said amount would turn everything back on, not that I had to pay for the next month right now! He said he was sorry again but they made the mistake. So I said I wanted a refund and to cancel my services right now. He said he would refund the money and since I cancelled my contract early, there would be a fee assessed. I agreed and the money was to be credited with 3 to 5 business days.
Well 5 days went by and I checked my bank account. Still no sign of a refund or credit for the money I was promised to get back. So once again I called DISH NETWORK to see what the problem was. Finally got through to a live person again and explained everything to the CSR. I knew this wouldn't get me anywhere so after they told me I wasn't recieving a refund I asked for yet another supervisor. Waited another 10 minutes for them to locate their supervisor and finally was patched through. I explained to her the situation from the beginning. How they had turned it off, how I called and was lied to, and how I cancelled my service and was assured of the refund. Then the supervisor told me she understands what had happend, but it was "UNFORTUNATE" because there company does not do refunds!! SHE SAID IT WAS UNFORTUNATE!!! I told her that I was lied to, not once, but now twice!! She said that the money that was debited from account went towards the past due and the termination fee. I told her that I did not authorize that. What I did authorize was the amount to go for service restoration, which I was told at the time, and nothing else. She once again told me that there company does not refund money for that reason. So I ended the call and decided to handle it myself.
The next day I got the emails of all the executives of DISH NETWORK and their parent company ECHO something.. I emailed them a very lengthy letter and included everything that had happend. From the initial lies, to the barley english speaking reps, to the ill advised supervisors. I even went to there website and on the section to email problems, I sent one to every department. After a couple days I received responses with the usual apologies and things but they still were saying they weren't refunding my money. Even after I told them it wasn't authorized by me for them to take. I then contacted my bank and filed a fraudelent transaction, stating I authorized a transaction for restoration of services, not payoff fees and future bills. My bank credited my account and sent me an affidavit to sign while they looked into the matter. I then researched dish network and found thousands upon thousands of complaints about deceptive and unfair business practices and multiple lawsuits across the country against them. So I filed an official complaint with the State Attorney Generals Office (ohio) and the Better Business Bureau. Both of which have multiple complaints about Dish Network and how they do business.
In closing I'd just like some sort of confirmation that what I'm doing is right. This company needs to be held accountable for what they have done, and continue to do to people.Like I said before, this is not about getting out of paying a bill, its about principle. The fact they lie to get money from customers, and then demand more money for there service. I don't need there shotty service that bad to keep paying them and turn a blind eye on how they handle there business. I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT AND NEITHER SHOULD ANYBODY ELSE!!!!!

Exactly what type of confirmation are you looking for?  While I am no fan of DISH in this case while inconvenient I don't really see any RipOff in this case.

You state you were past due so this is money you owed.  You paid that and the service was restored temporarily.  Now, they shut you off again because they wanted you to make next months payment.  Okay inconvenient but does it really matter if you pay it now or pay it later, it eventually needs to be paid right?

Then you decided to cancel your service, but want the past due money you paid refunded.  Well that was past due and since that was probably for past services that was money you legitimately owed.

When you cancelled you admit that they said because you cancelled early they may charge you a fee, and in the very next sentence you stated you agreed.  So they could take the money you paid and apply it to any early termination fees, which probably ate up any refund you may have gotten.

Your biggest problem may now be the affidavit you signed with the bank.  Depending on the outcome and exactly what you wrote on the affidavit, that may be enough grounds for the bank and/or Dish to go after you legally.  By the way the credit the bank gave you was most likely only temporary while they investigate.  If they find against you they may reverse the credit with NO notice to you.  So you better keep the amount of the reversal in your account as a buffer to avoid any possible overdraft situation.
