I made a HUGE mistake in ordering DISH network.. It was all okay in the beginning... I loved the channels and the quality was decent...

But, i had a baby and moved, and i cancelled the service... First, they said that i could not do that, but I DID!!! Well, previous to me cancelling the service i had use a friends credit card to make a one time payment on the account.. Well, my friend called me yesterday and said that DISH had charged his card for $180 without notice.. I called DISH and they said that it was within their rights to do that.. I argued my point stating that they could not charge someone elses card without their permission..

WELL, i got online and checked my friends card and DISH had not only charged him $180 on the 19th they charged $124 and $2 on the 23rd.. I called Dish and expalined that this was not MY card that they were charging, and i got a very rude person telling me that i had to pay it... I explained that this friend of mine had let me use his card ONE time only to make a payment.. But it was not my card.. They said they needed to talk to my friend, so i quickly conferenced him onto the call... the rep explained to him that he WOULD NOT reverse the charges, and it was his to pay!!!

We were transferred to a diff department and then to another department.. When we FINALLY reached the corporate dept they said that they needed a copy of the BANK STATEMENT, and something stating that I was not an authorized user on his credit card but the bank was closed. SOOOO we hung up, i called back the next day, and went through the whole saga again.. The person that i got was somewhat nice, but i had to get my friend on the line as well as his credit card company.. Finally with the cc company on the line DISH understood that it was not MY card, it was simply used to pay a payment ONE time.. The rep stated that he would remove the card from the account and he would refund the charges to the account...

WE were confident that this was resolved, BUT i decided to check my friends card again to see if the money was put back, And I found that DISH had charged the card AGAIN for $2 and $48 the same day that we talked to the rep and he said that the card was removed from the account...

SOOOO i called DISH yet again, and the rep that i talked to said to me plainly and meanly "you used this card on the account so we have the authority to charge the card" i said "so i could take your credit card and use it to pay my bills and you would be responsibly because i used it?" and his response was "YOU'LL PAY IT OR GO TO JAIL FOR FRAUD!!!!" How dare he? I committed no such fraud.. THEY DID.. i was given the authority to use my friends card ONE time to make a payment, and they took it upon themselves to continually charge the card on their own authority.. I quickly spoke to a supervisor, who stated that it was in the process of being refunded and the new charges that were done on the same day that i talked to the rep were done BEFORE I spoke with them to resolve it... SHE said it would be refunded within 5-7 days.. But we will see!!!!

Meanwhile his insurance payment bounced because of all the charges.....

IT IS NOT OKAY TO ASSUME THAT BECAUSE I USED THE CARD ONE TIME THAT THEY CAN CHARGE IT AGAIN AND AGAIN... THERE WERE OVER $300 IN CHARGES TAKEN OVER THE COURSE OF 6 DAYS...

And had it been my card would it still be okay to make so many BIG charges so close together... A normal payment would be one payment in 30 days, not 5 payments in 6 days.. It is my theory that they were doing multiple charges to be sure that they did not go over the limit on his acount, they wanted to get as close to the limit as they could!!!!

Call and ask for your contract

AUTHOR: Old_mac - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Dish network does not give you the option to sign the contract or not the make you sign it either in a store or after your installation is complete call them and let them know you need a copy of it and the will send it out to you complete with your signature and it also states next to the signature line that this contract may be signed by anyone over the age of 18 as authorized by the account holder so if you had a friend at your house during the installation they signed it and you gave them permission by not being available. trust me i used to work in their cancellations they have the contract with a signature the are an enormous company and that is not the way they do biz I agree it is a little fishy but they make sure their paper work holds up in court.

use a crdit card and not a debit card

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 08, 2009

ive been in the satellite business for 25 years. im required by dish network to explain everything to a potential customer. the contracts i print out from dish network web site are different from the ones that dish network uses . dont know why. when the customer wants to use a friend or family members credit card i refuse to take it. to do the promotion it requires a credit card , a 2 year contract and your ssn. the only way to do dish network install without the contract it to buy the equipment outright. when we go out to install a dish system. we are required to make the customer to sign to 2 copies of the contract. one for dish network and one for the customer. please everyone read my lips....if the dealer knows what he is doing you can get a blank copy of contract. before you consider a dish network system. but dish network does reserve the right to change the contract at anytime . so before you sign the final contract read it. for it may have changed from the original copy. that you may have gotten earlier. please only use your credit card and no one elses and do not use a debit card.................if your late on a payment dish as other outlets to make the payment besides credit or debit cards.....investigate call more that one dealer to get your info from and compare it.....i dont know how many times ive told the customer to read the contract before they sign....then end up signing without reading. i had one cutomer call me several times one day. because i was the only dealer telling him about the rain fade. no one told him not even dish network. then dish network played it down. i ended up installing the system and it rained that day and the signal faded 4 times during the installation. directv and dish network cutomer service isnt the greatest. do research before you do anything satellite, cell phone...you got bbb. ripoff report, internet in general, dealers in the business....just dont take only ones word read the contract and use a real crdit card that belongs to you....

Really?? I read and reread the contract that I DID NOT SIGN!!

AUTHOR: Afmh02 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 06, 2009

This is in reference to the rebuttal that was placed on here.!!!!

I did get a copy of a contract that I did not sign!! I was not there upon installation, and I told DISH that i would not sign a contract!! When we started service I specifically told the rep that I did not want to be locked into a contract, because i did not know if i would keep the service!! She explained to me that i could do that but would forfeit any "specials" that were being offered!! I said OKAY!! I SIGNED NOTHING!!!

And furthermore, that would be a legitamite contract, had i given them a credit card to put on file!! I DID NOT!! When we set up the service over the phone, I was NEVER asked for a credit card or bank account number!!!

I always paid by money orders for the first few months, and then one month came, when I had a baby and did not send out the payment in time for it to make it there.... therefore i asked a friend to use his card to make my payment for me, and he did... and it stated on the website that this is a "one time payment" So the card NEVER should have been recorded on the account AT ALL!!! Nobody authorized that card to be used for a contract that i did not agree to..

THEREFORE IT IS FRAUD ON DISH NETWORKS SIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And as for me oweing DISH money, I was going to pay them, and had already spoken to them NUMEROUS times to "settle" my account.. HOWEVER, when DISH took it upon themselves to STEAL (and yes they STOLE IT) from my friends card, causing overdraw fees and insurance lapse, I figured it all up and ACTUALLY DISH OWES ME $3.96... I WILL NOT PAY THEM UNTIL THEY CORRECT THE WRONG THAT THEY DID TO HIM!!! And IF they correct that wrong, Including any and ALL fees associated with the fradulent use of his card, I will pay them!!!!

SO MAN UP, AND STOP DEFENDING A COMPANY THAT YOU KNOW IS WRONG, JUST CAUSE THEY SIGN YOUR CHECKS!!!

REFUND

AUTHOR: Afmh02 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 04, 2009

They did refund the first 3 charges of $180, $124.50, and $2... But they did it 2 times!!!! Plus today the next 2 refunds are posting for $325 and $49... Those are only going thru one time... But what the hell? First they take money that is not theirs to take, and they refund $306.50 more than they took.. Now i have so sit on the phone with the bank to try to straighten it out!! GRRRRRR..... EEveryone is telling me to leave it alone, BUT i cannot!!!! It is not money that is ours, and i am not like them!!! I will not take money that is not MINE!!! Maybe however I will let them figure it out and contact me to fix it, i mean after all i had to call them to fix the incorrect charges, they should have to call me to fix theirs!!!! LOL

Read your contract

AUTHOR: Satellite Dish Man - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 02, 2009

Although I agree your friend should not have to pay DISH Network, however you brought this problem upon yourself by cancelling your service. Bottom line, you owe DISH Network the money. So you can either pay your friend back, or then prove to DISH Network that its not your card, they refund the money and you still got to pay them.

Here is what is says in your contract...

"Collection of Fees/Credit Card Authorization. You hereby authorize DISH Network to charge, and/or place a hold with respect to, any and all cancellation fee(s) and unreturned equipment charge(s) owing under this Agreement (collectively, the Authorized Amounts), to your credit card or debit/check card that you initially provided to DISH Network (the Qualifying Card) and authorize the issuer of the Qualifying Card to pay the Authorized Amounts without DISH Network submitting a signed receipt, and agree that this Agreement is to be accepted as such authorization. You authorize DISH Network to continue to attempt to charge, and/or place holds with respect to, the Authorized Amounts, or any portion thereof, to the Qualifying Card until such amounts are paid in full. You acknowledge and agree that DISH Network shall have no liability whatsoever for any non-sufficient funds, rejected debit, or other charges incurred by you as a result of such attempts to charge, and/or place holds on, the Qualifying Card. Payment of a cancellation fee shall not relieve you of your obligation to pay all unpaid charges on your account. In the event that you are enrolled or later enroll in DISH Network's AutoPay (AutoPay) or Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) payment programs, you agree that any and all monthly programming, pay-per-view, and other similar and related charges and other amounts owing under this Agreement or the Residential Customer Agreement may be charged to the credit card, debit/check card, or account provided by you to DISH Network pursuant to such AutoPay or EFT program."

Now there is another paragraph burried in the contract giving them the right to charge cancellation or un-returned equipment fees to any credit or debit card used to make payments on the account
