Background:
On August 16, 2001 I called DISH Network to let them know that I was having problems with the reception with only a few HBO Channels, but they were the one's I wanted. They told me it would take nearly six weeks to send out a technician to check it out. I told them I wasn't going to pay for HBO then, have it taken off, and I asked to speak to a supervisor about why it would take so long to get someone out.

The supervisor, whose name I have on the August bill but have not yet retrieved, was great and did a diagnostic with me on the phone. He determined that there were some frequencies that had unacceptable levels of reception. He told me that he would have someone come out September 2, 2001, and was very nice. He offered to give me the MegaMovie Package gratis for two months to make up for my problems for the previous two months.

I just got my bill today and was charge $119.00 for the service call. I signed the papers and have a copy and I should not have been charged. I was also charged $35.99 for one month of the MegaMovie Package. I called immediately and got a customer service agent, Liz, on the phone. She admitted that there was an error with the charge for the service call and told me it would be removed. Then she got very nasty and said that there was nothing in the records stating that I was to receive the MegaMovie package at no charge.

I said I had spoken to a manager who had approved this arrangement. I asked his name and she said that information was not recorded, with a real attitude. Then I said I needed to speak to a supervisor. Liz said, "Okay, but it will do you no good."

Andrea, the supervisor, was even nastier than Liz and with twice the attitude. I asked Andrea the name of the manager I had dealt with and she said that individual was no longer with the company. I noted that Liz had said the information was not recorded, which she confirmed, so how would she know the individual was no longer with the company. She then stated that I would have to fax documentation proving that I had been promised the two free months of the MegaMovie package.

Here's the Problem:
I said I wanted to speak to her manager and asked for a name. She said that was my choice, but was vague about a name. She asked if that was all I needed and I said I needed the fax number and she hung up on me. SHE HUNG UP ON ME!!! GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. SHE JUST COULDN'T TAKE THE USE OF LOGIC.

I later spoke with GUS, who was rational. He confirmed that the $119.00 should never have been charged, and was able to find what Liz and Andrea could not; the charge off code for the MegaMovie Package. Imagine that. I had to spend one hour and 25 minutes on the phone fixing something that should have only taken 5 minutes. And I was abused and disrespected in the process.

My time is valuable and I don't need this crap! What I learned is that I have to document every dealing with DISH Network because they do not keep their word. I suggest you document too.

This is what I demand: An apology from DISH Network CEO. I also either want Liz and Andrea to lose their jobs, or I want $325 credit on my account for my lost time and abuse. That is a DISH Network decision. If they choose the former, I want proof! I want copies of their pink slips with sufficient information that I can verify.

I have posted this as a Rip-Off Report to let them know they have a problem.

DISH NETWORK Response Totally Unacceptable

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Sunday, September 30, 2001

I received a letter from DISH Network customer service. Their response is totally unacceptable. They confirmed that they are taking off the $119 installation charge, which should never have been made. Since the equipment was less than one year old it was still under warranty. I believe they hope most people won't look at their bill carefully.

The other issue of taking off the charge which was promised in the first place was used as a justification for not providing additional compensation. I have wasted over two hours of my time because they decided to be difficult and I am not satisfied until more happens to compensate for that. Their apology is not acceptable.

--------------------Response-------------------

Dear Danny,

Thank you for your email. I have reviewed the web site and your
complaint that you have registered there. First of all, I would encourage you to contact us directly for resolution if you have a complaint with our customer service in the future. The company you did contact is an independent retailer and they do not have anything to do with this matter at all. Please understand that all DISH Network retailers are independent vendors and independent of DISH Network's control.

We appreciate that you took the time to inform us that your billing statement was incorrect. I would like to apologize on behalf of the DISH Network for the way that your issue was handled by our employee. It is certainly not our policy to provide anything less than the best quality customer service level in our abilities. We take our customer service seriously and strive to be the best in our industry. Our customers are very
important to us and we sincerely apologize for the service which you have received. There is no excuse for being inconsistent or insufficient to those that have made us what we are today-our customers! We appreciate that you have brought this to our attention. While we cannot discuss internal business practices with our customers please be advised that this will be addressed appropriately.

We will be unable to grant you a credit for $325.00 for your
inconvenience. I do show that your account has been credited $119.00 for a free service call, $35.99 for the Megamovie package and $26.71. Our supervisor, Gus, with whom you spoke to on September 27th, 2001 applied the necessary adjustments as per your request. For the inconvenience you have experienced Dish Network has already given you a total of $181.70. In order
to keep our programming prices at a minimum we will be unable to offer you more compensation.

Again, thank you for bringing this mistake to our attention and
thank you for being a valued subscriber. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you,
Bonnie C.

Letter to Echostar Executives: Countdown to Response

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Saturday, September 29, 2001

Here is an e-mail just sent to the Executives at Echostar. I want everyone to know how they respond and how long it takes:

---------------------Message----------------------

Date: Saturday, September 29, 2001 10:02 AM

TO: Charlie.Ergen@echostar.com (President)

Jim.Defranco@echostar.com (Vice-President)

Dana.Mcgowan@echostar.com (Head, Customer Svc Dept.)

CC: Chris.Palmer@echostar.com (Operations Support Mgr.)

John.Suranyi@echostar.com Al.Gonzalez@echostar.com

Subject: Serious Customer Service Problems

I value my ability to receive television transmissions via your satellite service. Unfortunately, you do not value me as a customer and that makes me angry, since you take my money anyway. It is my understanding that Echostar owns (and don't play games with that word) DISHNET and DISH Networks. Is that true, or not?

If that is true, someone at DISHNET has threatened to sue me in a court of law, which is totally unfounded. You totally have no idea who you are dealing with. I am concerned that you try to bully others in this way. I don't know who is supposed to respond, but it took me an hour to look up these e-mail addresses. DISHNET responded within two hours and I have yet to hear anything from DISH Network. The latter promised to respond in 48 hours, so my request for satisfaction will have to be renegotiated after that time. You have 15 hours left. Here is the link to this complaint.

Echostar Satellite Corporation ...Thank you for the information to clear this mess up. But ...

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Friday, September 28, 2001

Thank you for the information to clear this mess up. This is truly interesting! I was instructed by ANDREA at Dish Network to use the DISHNET website to register my complaint.

I am curious upon which grounds you would file a lawsuit against me because, a) you have also responded in the form of a rebuttal on this website just 2 hours after my submittal, thus participating in the public display of this information, and b) I would think that any legal action would need to be taken against DISH Network because the confusion was caused by DISH Network employees.

Additionally, another customer service representative told me that Echostar Satellite Corporation owns both DISHNET and DISH Network. I appreciate knowing whether this is true or not and if not where the distinction lies. Incidentally, if you are both part of Echostar does that mean you will be suing yourself? This complaint was also sent to DISH NETWORK because I suspected a customer service shell game. By the way, great customer service tactic; threaten the customer.
