I'm an employee of Dish TV. I'm on the team that audits accounts and decides if you have fulfilled the terms of your contract with Dish. If you havent, then I add the fees to your bill. We are given business rules to follow, and they dont give us much leeway. Contracts are contracts, period.

I read the history of the accounts and have some comments to make here. First, READ THE CONTRACT. Dish is very aggressive about collecting numerous fees. Very.

If you dont like the terms, then dont sign up with Dish.
If you do, then THEN PAY YOUR BILL ON TIME, IN FULL. There are NO hidden fees, it's all in the contract, however tiny.

If you think you may not keep service for a full year for any reason at all, then DONT cash the rebate check. You can cancel service anytime without penalty or further obligation until you cash the check.

When you cash the check, you are agreeing to maintain a level of programming for one year.

There are two acceptable reasons to cancel the contract without penalty, death and bankruptcy. Dish requires the death certificate or legal papers.

If you fail to keep the service a year, then Dish takes the rebate back-this is called the cancellation fee. Period.

Dont order pay per views if you cant afford to pay for them. And dont ask Dish to reverse the charges for pay per views.

Someone in your household, using your remote, ordered the PPV's. There are exceptions but they are rare.

Dish never, but NEVER EVER, picks up the equipment. If you need to return it, call and get the return authorization and the boxes and labels, and do it yourself.

If you cant be bothered to do so within a resonable period of time, then you WILL be charged for the equipment.

Dont curse or abuse our reps. In those circumstances, they can and will hang up on you. (And that is the only time they are allowed to hang up on you.)

If I'm reading your account history and trying to find some reason not to charge your account for a fee of some kind, usually a contract cancellation 2 or 3 weeks short of a year, and I see you cursed the rep, forget it.

They have a horrible job and they do note it when you curse them. Most of the reps will try to help you if you are nice to them, and there are some limited things they can do, like reversing fees if they can find any reason at all to do so
(especially if you've paid your bills in full on time), or compensating you with the same amount in free programming.

A tip: if you have a legitimate complaint, and you arent getting anywhere with the rep, then pretend to be interrupted and call back later. Another rep may be able to help you better.

DONT tell the first rep that you are doing this to get another rep, they put that in the notes on your account.

If you have equipment failure, call immediately. Dish will allow you a reasonable period of time to make repairs and adjust your bill for time without service, usually a couple weeks or so.

Dont call in and say your service went out 3 months ago and expect to get tfree ime without service.

If you decide to cancel service at the end of the year, then you do have to call in to cancel, and you do have to be transferred to talk to the cancellation team. Hang up before you complete that process and your service stays on. Same thing goes for the 3 months' movie package promo; you must call and cancel at the end of the 3 free months, or you will be billed for them past that date. That's fair.

Another tip: when you call Dish about your account, ask the rep to read back to you the notes he or she made regarding your conversation. Sometimes reps just dont make notes or they fail to get entered.

Dish assumes no responsiblity for your problems with independent dealers.

It's better to order the system through Dish directly, than to deal with fly-by-night satellite dish dealers and especially, ordering over the internet.

It's difficult to get a refund for a credit balance with Dish. Better for you to owe Dish a month's service at the end of your contract. Cancel your credit card auto pay in advance, cancel the card to be safe, and let a billing cycle pass before you pay the final bill. If your contract calls for it, then return the receivers immediately and hang on to your proof of shipping.
Put your account number on your check.

Dish is a business with over 5 million customers. Charlie Ergen replies to no one, dont waste your time asking. Dont bother to threaten Dish with legal action, tho if you can get through to the legal support staff, they can help sometimes. Sometimes. Bottom line is, read the contract, and expect Dish to enforce absolutely every rule and charge every fee allowed.

Late fees, transaction fees, cancellation fees, equipment fees.

I dont like a lot of Dish's business practices-I'm not a customer of Dish myself-but after reading thousands of problem account histories, I have to point out that a lot of people make the problems for themselves.
