I have been purchasing custom suits from Distinguished Image Clothiers/Kip Boydston for almost 3 years. I have spent almost $30,000 with him in those three years. He comes by the office, takes measurements, you look through his books and pick the fabrics, buttons, liner, thread color, etc. He typically requires half up front and half on delivery which is typically under 6 weeks.

The last order I placed with him on May 2nd, 2016 was just under $7200, I wrote a check for the entire amount, the check cleared my account on May 4th. The last time I heard from him was May 11th and that was about a couple of suit vests that he had to alter. I then started reaching out on June 6th to get a status update. I continued about every other day trying to get a status update on my 4 Suits and 8 Shirts I ordered. I emailed, texted and called him. 

He finally emailed me June 27th, 2016 stating he has had issues with his phone, email is below:

I hope you had a fantastic weekend.

I just wanted to write you a short note and apologize to you if you've had difficulty reaching me the least few weeks. I have had massive phone issues the last 6-8 weeks, and I have tried several times to get them resolved. Unfortunately things came to a head last week when my phone completely quit on me. For some reason, for the past several weeks, I could only receive texts if you were replying to one I sent out, and voicemails were not coming through at all.

I finally got a new one to replace it late Friday afternoon, but I'm not certain how many phone calls, or texts I have missed. All texts and voicemails sent since early May were not received. Luckily, I expect all of those issues to be behind me now. So, if you have tried to reach me, but haven't had any luck, I apologize. Please know I will be replying to any texts, or voicemails going forward as soon as I can. I apologize again if you've had a hard time getting a hold of me.

End of email he sent

I have still not heard anything from him, I have emailed, called and left multiple text messages. yesterday was 2 exactly 2 months since my check cleared to him. 

This happened last year when an employee of my company ordered suits from him, he went completely silent on him after 2 months. My friend finally disputed the charge on his credit card for the 50% he paid Kip upfront. Only then did Kip respond to him and make sure he took care of him. Another employee ordered over $8000 worth of clothes and paid 50% up front on his credit card and after two months could not get a response, so he cancelled the whole order and disputed his credit card. Kip never did reach back out to him or try to rectify the issue. He gave the same exact excuse last year, he had phone issues, and he was sick.

I only paid 50% one time and started paying him 100% upfront after my first order. I never had issues until last year and it made me look really bad to my employees that trusted him because of me. I quit ordering from him at that time because I didn't know if he was having financial issues or what. I then spoke to a couple other employees that said everything was good with him, so I tried another order. I was stupid to trust him again and especially pay upfront with a check, as I have very little recourse now, other than to take him to court.

We also found out that he has been outsourcing our clothes to China, that's why it's a 6 week lead time, he cuts all the labels out of the clothing that say made in China so his customers don't know. I found out because I found some clothes he had made for me that he forgot to take the labels out.

Bottom line is: when he gets you what you ordered its good quality, it's very expensive when you realize he's ordering from China versus, the US or European Countries known for high quality custom suits. His markup is at least 100% on suits and probably 300% on shirts.

I am posting this hoping that it will stop anyone else from losing money to this guy, who takes your money and runs.
