I purchased two lamps for my DLP televisions over the past few years from DLPLampSource.com. Come to find out that their website got hacked awhile ago and alot of peoples credit card information was stolen. I never received an email or a letter from them letting me know that my credit card information was compromised.

In the last month both of the credit cards I used for the Lamps were compromised and use fraudulently for a lot of money. My bank did reimburse me for the charges and the only thing I really lost was the hassle and time of taking care of it.

I am not sure why I did not get an email or letter from DLPLampSource.com but I will never use them again for anything. I would be carefuly ordering anything form DLP Lamp Source because of the reason I pointed out above.

Use them at your own risk.

DLP Lamp Source response

AUTHOR: DLP Lamp Source - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 06, 2009

Hello:
My name is Dan Buchbinder and I am the President of DLP Lamp Source.  Upon realization of the breach, customers were emailed the following letter to the email address on file with us:

Dear Customer:
We are writing to inform you about a recent incident that might involve personal information about you. We recently discovered the order administration portion of the DLP Lamp Source website was compromised which affected personal information. We deeply regret that this incident occurred and take very seriously our obligation to protect the privacy of personal information. We are currently cooperating with law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident. Through our investigation, we have determined that the personal information involved in this incident included the names and credit card numbers of DLP Lamp Source customers. We wanted to give you notice so that you can take action to protect yourself. We also are thoroughly investigating the incident and examining the measures we can take to help prevent incidents of this kind from happening again. The first step that was taken was to determine how a portion of the website was compromised and immediately resolve the issue. The website server was locked down and data source tables cleaned. The source of the security compromise was isolated and blocked immediately. Steps We Recommend You Take You can take some simple steps to protect yourself against identity theft or other fraudulent misuse of information about you. Remain vigilant and promptly report incidents of suspected identity theft or fraud to local law enforcement agency, your financial institution and to one of the three nationwide consumer reporting agencies listed below to have it removed from your credit file. In addition, watch for any unusual activity on your credit card accounts or suspicious items on your bills. You may wish to contact your credit card issuers and financial institutions and inform them of the incident. You may also wish to do the following: You may periodically obtain credit reports from each of the three nationwide credit reporting agency and have information relating to fraudulent transactions deleted. Under federal law, you are entitled to one free copy of your credit report every twelve months from each of the major credit reporting agencies. You may obtain a free copy of your credit report by going on the Internet to www.AnnualCreditReport.com or by calling 1-877-FACTACT (1-877-322-8228). If you would rather write, a request form is available on www.AnnualCreditReport.com. You may want to obtain copies of your credit reports to ensure the accuracy of the report information. To further protect yourself, you may contact the fraud departments of the three major credit reporting agencies. They will discuss your options with you. You have the right to ask that the three credit reporting agencies place a "fraud alert" in your file. A fraud alert can make it more difficult for someone to get credit in your name because it tells creditors to follow certain procedures to protect you. It also may delay your ability to obtain credit. You may place a fraud alert in your file by calling just one of the three major credit reporting agencies. As soon as that agency processes your fraud alert, it will notify the other two credit reporting agencies, which then must also place fraud alerts in your file. You also may place a security freeze on your file by calling one of the three major credit reporting agencies. The three major credit reporting companies are: Experian P.O. Box 9532 Allen, TX 75013 www.experian.com 1-888-397-3742 Equifax P.O. Box 740241 Atlanta, Georgia 30374 www.equifax.com 1-800-525-6285 TransUnion, Fraud Victim Assistance Department P.O. Box 6790 Fullerton, CA 92834 www.transunion.com 1-800-680-7289 Identity theft is a growing concern. To learn more, you can go to www.consumer.gov/idtheft, or www.ftc.gov/credit, or call 1-877-IDTHEFT (1-877-438-4338). In addition, you may contact the Federal Trade Commission or law enforcement to report incidents of identity theft. Please know that we regret any inconvenience or concern this incident may cause you and remain committed to protecting the privacy of personal information. For further information regarding this matter, please call us at 1-866-764-5822.
Sincerely,
Dan Buchbinder
President & CEO
