Dr. H. Michael Shack BAIT AND SWITCH BANDIT!!! Newport Beach California

I made an appointment to see Dr. Shack and explained that I didn't have money to pay for my visit on the day of the exam.  His nurse assured me that I wouldn't owe anything the day of the exam.  On the day of the exam I filled out the form and explained that I have blocked tear ducts, which causes my eyes to tear severly, and itchy eyes, but he never looked at the paperwork to see if I reported any eye issues.

When Dr. Shack did the exam he then proceeded to try and put me into contact lenses.  He kept saying "you should try contacts" and was a smooth salesman. He really pushed me to "try" the contacts and see how they feel.  I agreed to try them out, but I was never told there would be a fitting fee for this service.   I was amazed that I was able to see so clearly and was happy.  However, then I was hit with the bill of $599 for a 6 month supply of daily contacts.  I was shocked at the price but felt that I because I tried on the samples I had obligated myself, so against my better judgement I agreed and paid them.  Later that evening I began having trouble with the tearing in my eyes, and this caused me to be unable to see clearly.

I called the next business day and told him my problems and that I realized that I couldn't afford the contacts since I had come in only for glasses.  His comment was bring them back in, but there will be a $199 charge for fitting the contact lenses. 

Not only that, but during the time that his nurse was measuring me for glasses two other customers came in and she was extremely distracted and rather than telling them to wait while she helped me, she multi-tasked and made me feel like I was not her main focus.  I'm still not sure she entered the data correctly and still wonder if I should cancel my order.

I will "never" return to this place of business again and I'm going to contact the Better Business Bureau to report this "Bait and Switch" type of practice!!!  This man is despicable as far as I'm concerned!!!
