This company and many others like it have job titles like "Entry Level Marketing and Advertising. Work with PRO SPORTS!". Also the body of the job title will include words like "offering training in the following fields, promotional marketing and advertising, finance, strategic planning", and claims they are looking for numerous entry level candidates for marketing and advertising.

I have found this job description is a complete fabrication. The job is very simple, it is door-to-door sales. It involves going to different homes or businesses trying to sell merchandise to customers that are better off without it. Nowhere in the job posting does it mention it, which makes it very shady.
The first interview is usually a quick meet and greet that again makes no mention of "door to door sales" or solicitation". Then the second interview brings the truth, an all day interview of door to door selling. Raining outside? Bring an umbrella. Snow? Bundle up. Scorching heat? Bring plenty of water. No Soliciting signs? Forget it, your going in anyway.

I have a friend working with one of these shady companies and the cops arrested him for selling without a permit. What did the company do? Nothing, so he spent the night in jail.

Be warned. If you see "entry level marketing" or "sports marketing" tread carefully and make sure to ask what the actual job entails before interviewing. The fact that the actual job duties are hidden should be a tell-tale sign that this business is shady and needs to be exposed.
Watch for ds-max, ds/max, dsmax, cydor and granton marketing companies!!

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Former employee's words of wisdom

AUTHOR: Neil - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 02, 2008

Let me start by saying I am not going to proofread this for errors.

I spent quite a long time in this business (nearly a year to the day) and left. I was considered a "hotshot" in the company... regularly listed in the top sales around the country, and regularly looked at by the national management as a fast riser. The sales are ridiculously easy (it really as as simple as smiling and reading the card... dont feel like you are swindling people, if you do your job and explain the card, its still a no brainer). I couldnt build a team ( I have no patience), so I left the business.

Before I left, I was exposed to 4 different offices, and they way they are run. What is said about some of these companies is true, but, each office is independantly run, some more ethiocal than the rest. If you dont know, Drive is run by Bill Bishop.

They say any business, small or large takes its lead from the management. Bill is one person who will be honest and forthright with you so long as its a two way street.

When I left the business, I was living with Bill at the time. I'll be honest, I screwed him over. I left without paying the next 30 days rent (as is typical with any real estate transaction) and left him in the lurch (I was young and dumb). None the less, I blamed Bill for bringing me out to Ohio and me not succeeding. Lets be honest, there is only person on whom you can rely for success. That was my mistake.

I used my family's connections to get a good job. The universe has been good to me, and I make enough money to live comfortably (I will not give details on my income, but rest assured, most 24 year olds do not make what I do). The skills I used in "door to door sales" I use everyday at my current job... the 8 steps are still posted on my desk right next to some of the impacts I gave. The skills I learned are invaluable. Yes, at Drive you will work 6 days a week. You will work alot of hours. Today I work 5 days a week for 12 hrs a day. Other people in the company complain about the hours... to me its cake.

You are probably reading this before an interview. If so, I recommend that you go in there with an open mind and understand Bill will be training you for SUCCESS in any field, not just this one.

As I mentioned, Bill is a good person. Here is the example I will cite (I can give countless others):
I left Bill hanging about 2 years ago. I sent him an email saying he owed me money for thing I left in storage that I never got back. Every law on the planet would side with Bill. None the less, he wrote me a check TWO YEARS LATER for my costs. He gained nothing, but did the right thing.

As you prepare yourself for this interview, dont sell yourself short. Go, ace it, and spend time learning how to influence people. Spend time implementing habits to make you successful. Spend time learning what it means to lead people from a guy who although I blatantly disrespected, I would go to bat for anyday.

The company is not a scam as long as you ask questions. I will bet my life Bill will answer them honestly.

P.S. If you are they type of person who expects success instead of earning it, save yourself the time of an interview. This place wont be right for you.
