Do NOT send money thru DWOLLA to a third party unless you know they have an account. They'll accept your sure enough, but the only way the intended party can get that money is to reveal their personal financial information about their banking relationship to DWOLLA. I used to play occasional online poker and NLOP owes me about $27.50 which they sent to DWOLLA - now DWOLLA says to get my money I have to give them my SSN, Bank account numbers, etc.

I don't want a DWOLLA account or relationship; I just want my money. So DWOLLA holds me and my money hostage as they don't provide a 'guest' receive option; you either give up the information or give up your money. Well they won't get my personal information but I would consider a class-action lawsuit for all of those accounts with money in them where law-abiding private citizens are refusing these unlawful practices.

I expect to DWOLLA ask before accepting money from someone who owes me money when I am not a DWOLLA customer.  I did NOT ask, accept or otherwise infer a relationship with DWOLLA, NLOP did.  I got checks from NLOP for years, now DWOLLA has signed them up to handle payments and, if you want the money owed to, you must hand over information to them to get it.  I do not want a relationship with DWOLLA, I want my money.  It should be illiegal for them to inject themselves into the middle of a transaction without consent from BOTH parties.  I maintain it is nothing short of financial blackmail - 'hey, we convinced that guy who owes you money to give it to us ... HA!  You want it?  Pony up your personal infomation for a relationship with us.'  No thanks.

It appears that you agreed to be paid using the Dwolla service, without having a clue about it.

Dwolla doesn't use credit cards, but instead involves direct transfers between bank accounts. To do this, it MUST get accurate information from you.  It's responsible for verifying that the target account is really yours.

What do you expect them to do?  Just give the money to ANYONE who turns up saying he's the intended recipient?
