Want an unprofessional, corrupt group of movers to handle your belongings? This is exactly what we ended up getting.

A description of the terrible experience my wife and I had with E-Z Moving, aka AAA E-Z Moving.

1) Movers arrive late and are unprepared to start the move. The gang leader, Igor, was unstable, had very volatile mood swings, and often didn't make any sense. I refer to him as a gang leader because his group functioned very much as a gang (speaking among themselves only in Russian, reporting to us "new" details from their "boss" that were outside the contract, and literally pushing into us and on two occasions at least, destroying our property, in one case, below, intentionally).

Upon arriving, the gang leader asks us for quarters that he can put in the meter for the truck. When we told him we didn't have any but would be glad to reimburse him for parking expenses, he actually asked us to go to the bank to get him a roll of quarters!? And when I said that this was a ridiculous request to make of us on moving day, he threw a tantrum and disappeared for several minutes.

2) The movers were slow and rarely worked as a team, probably because we were paying them by the hour. They had no respect for our belongings either, tossed pillows on the floor, scratched the coffee table top, and threw packaging tape and supplies all over the place.

3) Once our items were on the truck, the gang leader tried A) to get us to pay in advance, which he claimed his "boss" had just told him to extract, even though we firmly agreed at the time of the contract that payment would come after the items were delivered. B) The gang leader strongly suggested that if we didn't pay in advance something might happen to our belongings ("If you don't pay, I will be liable." he said. Liable for what? We already had signed for their pathetic insurance coverage, since they would not allow us to select additional insurance coverage, which no one informed us required advance notice). Not incidentally, I later discovered a hole in our son's dresser, which was exactly in the shape of a fist! These people were corrupt to the bone.

4) Requests to provide us with the included wardrobe boxes had to be repeated over and over. This meant more money for the movers, who again were being paid on an hourly rate.

5) Unbelievably, when we arrived to DC, the gang leader Igor again asked for, this time demanded, that we pay him in advance, again claiming that his "boss" asked him to do so. After looking at our new apt, Igor asked us if it was a company-paid move. He told us, in no uncertain terms, that he was willing to leave the invoice open so that we could put down whatever figure we liked, at the company's expense apparently: $5000, even $10,000! And this for a $1700 estimate! This is the level of corruption we were dealing with, and we had little choice once the move got underway.

We were at their mercy, although in the end they lost the tip we offered them. In fact, Igor wanted a 20% tip, which meant nearly $400! He claimed that if a waiter made 20%, why shouldn't a mover? Hey, why don't we all just go around asking our employers for a 20% tip that amounts to an additional $400. Great idea. The point is that the service was awful and we felt that the tip was totally up to us, not mandatory, as Igor indicated. In fact, Igor openly made fun of us when we gave him a $30 tip, then tried to intimidate us by calling his 2 buddies over to join in the laugh. This was nearly at 3AM with our 3-month old child, too.

6) To slow things down even more, workers would be absent, disappear without any warning, and take frequent cigarette breaks.

7) In the end, the gang left upset, with Igor cursing and saying that he could care less if we reported him to his company. And this is a company claiming on its website that "Customer Satisfaction is our Top Priority."

Hardly. When we contacted E-Z Moving, we were told sorry, but you signed the contract agreeing to the stated price. As if we were in any position to negotiate with a bunch of cursing, bitter hooligans at 3AM. Although I checked the BBB and pulled up E-Z Moving's record (about 10 complaints/year), I decided to take the chance. Now I'm in the position to complain to the BBB, which I most certainly will do.

Our conclusion: stay away from this company and tell your friends to stay away from them as well. I forgot to mention that they gave us absurd toll receipts, one of them for crossing a bridge (the Tappan Zee), which was totally out of the way.

This type of mafia climate should be isolated and shut down for good. I am happy that the creators of this website have given us the opportunity to share our experience with others in the hopes that they can make better decisions than we did.
