I am just filing this report as a word of warning. There are many marketing positions advertised on job websites and with many it is not immediately clear that these are commission only door to door sales jobs.

These companies come in many guises and have been around a long time there is not the unlimited untapped market they will try and have you believe nor are they completely straight in their recruitment methods.

They will make out you have done exceptionally well to have got through the interview when in fact they will hire anyone. I didn't last long as I have studied psychology and realised that the techniques they use on staff are the same they use on customers. All of these companies do this and all will tell you it is possible to be a manager running your own business in one year.

This is acheivable but the odds are against it and any google search into the nature of this business model will tell you why.

You will knock on doors all day but first you have a meeting in what they call the atmosphere. This involves reinforcement of their philosophy through crude measures. Your average day will probably be 12 hours minimum this is 6 days a week.

I smelt a rat straight away but decided to persevere in case i could make money in door to door sales and i did make sales but if you worked in a minimum wage job 70 hours a week you would earn over 300 pounds a week. Most of their sales people dont, good ones often make 4-500 pounds. But then factor in you have to pay for food, travel and are wandering the streets all day.

I decided to leave when a team leader left who had recently attended a rising star meeting and we are told 80% of people who attend these make management, the figures began not to add up. This team leader was young, intelligent and hard working but one week he barely made enough to pay his petrol and his health was sufferring. He left.

I left due to inconsistencies in what i was told. My trainer told me noone had ever been made redundant in that business. This alarmed me that a 32 year old man could be so naive as to not realise we were all self employed. Also if many of these team leaders earned 400 plus a week how come none had a car and they wore the same cheap primark suit day in day out. I snapped after a morning meeting where the manager so blatantly used the sales techniques we had been taught on us I knew this was a huge mess of self delusion. All the high fives and talk of sports cars cant hide the fact many of them live hand to mouth, live together like students and drone the same repetitive answers.

I also looked online and found disturbing things regarding many of these businesses. They will say they are upfront and have nothing to hide but repeat the same generic answers, concerns are dismissed as you having a negative attitude.

So a word to the wise know what you are getting yourself into. If it sounds to good to be true it probably is.

Finally of the sales i made after i left didn't see a penny of that commission. When i phoned the managers were conveniently absent. I think this tells you all you need to know about how these people operate. They have been making money off hoodwinking the naive and desperate for a long time with their ridiculous business model and crude psychology. Be wary.
