Years ago I worked with Tushi, the Asian owner of the Earthchild store in Westfield, NJ when we were both employed at a tennis club on Inman Avenue in Plainfield, and this guy was just nuts! He was like a puppy dog sniffing around other employees and clients and trying to eavesdrop. Once I even caught him listening at doors. I never did find out what he was looking for but that man gave me the creeps. So imagine my shock at finding such a person selling clothing to children! Ugh.

Additional Information on the Nightmares That Are Carolyn & Toshi Gibson

AUTHOR: Miami Mama - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 10, 2008

I just realized there were a few things I left off my initial reports on this site on the two messed up Gibsons.

One is that when the faculty member Leboff leaked the info to the parents about the Gibson's drug abuse she said that the reason they were doing their drugs at night in the same school bus in which they drove the Vail-Deane students in the mornings was so that their landlord in Plainfield, NJ wouldn't smell the pot and call the cops. Leboff also said Carolyn Dow Gibson came from a very nice family, which I find almost impossible to believe, that her parents were "appalled" at her lifestyle, living at first unmarried with the bus driver in a hovel in Plainfield furnished with orange crates, doing drugs all the time, and that her parents had wanted to "do something" about her. But her parents DID NOT do anything about her. They did not do one single thing to stop their sick, irresponsible daughter.

Instead, children like mine had to suffer through being the recipients of her drug-induced paranoia and abuviseness. My daughter reports that Gibson was consistently paranoid and thought kids were "out to get her," would even spy on them, which is a drug abuse symptom, and that it was terrifying to watch this play out. Keep in mind that as a parent I was paying Vail-Deane for the "honor" of sending my kid into this bad situation.

Carolyn and Toshi Gibson, if you are reading this, you are TOTALLY REPREHENSIBLE, and I am delighted to have the Internet provide me with a forum for saying so to the world. You're like two cockroaches who do your dirty work in the dark, when nobody is able to see, but thanks to the Internet, the rest of us can shed and shine the light on your sick activities and illuminate them in all their sordid glory for other parents of kids you come in contact with.

As one former student of Vail-Deane has suggested on another Ripoff Report, the kids really should be paid reparations for dealing with you.

Toshi and Carolyn Gibson: Every Parent's Worst Nightmare Come True

AUTHOR: Miami Mama - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 16, 2008

I'm very sorry to break this unpleasant news to you, Co-Owners of Earthchild, but I think Wheezie from Westfield has a very legitimate right to be suspicious of your partner and to try to warn the public about him. I'm chiming in. Carolyn Gibson and her husband Toshi were every parents' worst nightmare come true. They drove my daughter's school van. They were disrespectful to me as a parent and hideous to my daughter, but their attitude alone was not their only problem: Mrs. Doris Leboff, a teacher at Vail-Deane, told me that both Carolyn and Toshi Gibson were habitual drug abusers. They would even sit in the school van every night, close all the windows, and smoke their pot in there, with the windows all shut, the better to 'concentrate' the pot, be surrounded by the smoke, and get higher from it. They invited another teacher, who flatly refused, to do the same, and then the story made its way around the Vail-Deane Faculty Lounge, and finally to some of the parents.

Doris Leboff was hesitant in telling this to anyone until her daughter Barbara, who went to the school for free because she was a faculty member's child, had graduated. To protect her daughter Barbara, Doris Leboff allowed other people's children, including mine, to be driven around on that school bus by those two stupid fouled-up hippies and to risk being killed on a daily basis by their irresponsibility as they drove under the influence of illegal substances.

This story was later confirmed by not one, not two, but three other former Vail-Deane faculty members. Everyone knew what those two Gibsons were about but nobody did a single thing about stopping them.

I would not want any child in my family going anywhere near them ever again and cannot imagine anyone who's sane hiring either of them. Earthchild Co-Owners, when you teamed up with Toshi you picked a lemon. If you don't like hearing it or being associated with it, please know that the Gibsons should have thought about how their reputation would suffer in the long term before choosing to behave as irresponsibly as they did toward other people's children, including mine, in the short term. I don't care how long ago this happened, either. This was wrong then and it's wrong yet. It's unfortunate if this tars your store with the same brush, but YOUR establishment also deals with children, and YOU hired him. This is a man who was doing drugs then driving kids.

Does that really and truly fit in with Earthchild's definition of a very honest and respectable gentleman?

Earthchild Co-Owners on Ridiculous Report

AUTHOR: Co Owners Of Earthchild - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 28, 2008

As the co-owners of Earthchild Clothing, we were horrified to read the Rip-Off Report against our partner, Toshi. Many of our customers were also shocked, which is why there were so many rebuttals in such a short period of time. Toshi is a very honest reputable gentleman, who plays an important role in our business. In fact, people who worked at the tennis club with Toshi, complained to us about the absurdity of the original report.

Six Rebuttals All Filed in An Hour and Five Minutes on January 14th?

AUTHOR: Chiyo Sayuri - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 07, 2008

I found this report when I was trying to look the store up to get directions to the store. What shocks me about it is that there are so many rebuttal reports on here. The first six of them are all date stamped on January 14th, 2008. And all of them are filed within one hour and five minutes of each other.

It looks suspiciously like one person sat at a computer and filed six different reports using five different names one after the other! For this to happen naturally and by complete coincidence pretty much beggars belief. All in an hour and five minutes, yet. It's so transparent it's funny.

Whatever may be going on with this store owner somebody "doth protest too much methinks."

Untrue and Unfair Slander

AUTHOR: Drew - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 23, 2008

I have known Toshi for a few years. I have worked with him and his co-owners of earthchild for two years. He is nothing but kind, positive, and a pleasure to be around. I question whether the individual who left this slanderous commentary has ever even met Toshi. He clearly did not even know his name!!
It is extremely irresponsible of this website to publish slanderous material about a person without any factual information to back it up. This can be extremely hurtful to the victim as well as their business as well as difficult, if not impossible, to undo. This website should re-evaluate their format and make appropriate changes before a lawsuit forces them to make these changes.

You have got to be kidding....

AUTHOR: Sally - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 15, 2008

I have known Toshi Gibson for many years. He worked at a wonderful private school that my kids attended, and I worked there with him. I also frequently shop at Earthchild. There is no substance or truth to this report and I too am surprised it was even printed at all. Toshi is a great guy and everyone who knows him can attest to that. Your website should omit this report.

#9 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Ex Employee and Consumer or Earthchild

AUTHOR: Rcarmona - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 15, 2008

I am shocked to read such an awful report about Toshi. I have known the owners of Earthchild for many years, long before there was an Earthchild. Not only is one of the owners a dear friend to me, but I have also worked with all 3 of them in the store and prior to the store opening. Toshi has always been very kind and genuinely warm-hearted, and very fun to work with. He has a great personality and sense of humor. It sadens me to read such awful words on the internet based on one persons opinion. Wheezie, have you ever heard the saying " if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" ? It's one thing to share your feelings or opinions with a friend privately but to throw it up on the internet for the whole world to see is just awful especially when it is a PERSONAL OPINION.

I would strongly recommend that anyone who hasn't visited the store, see for yourself, the owners are very nice people and the clothes are beautiful.

Wheezie - wrong impression of Toshi

AUTHOR: Alyse - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 14, 2008

Wheezie,

Your impression of Toshi, not Tushi, is totally incorrect. I have known Toshi for many years. I have provided accounting consulting services to Earthchild for many years. Toshi is a very honest & honorable person. He always tells the truth.

When a customer enters the store Toshi greets them with a smile, is very friendly, and graciously offers his assistance. I have made several purchases from Toshi. Toshi is there to please his clients. He always wants to help. I do not hesitate entering the store when Toshi is present.

More stores should have owners like Toshi!

Earthchild not a Ripoff

AUTHOR: Cynthia - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 14, 2008

This is in response to the criticism written by Wheezie in NJ regarding Toshi Gibson, one of the owners of Earthchild children's shop in NJ. Firstly, I can not believe that the comments written by this person were deemed acceptable by this website to publish as relevant criticism of a place of business. The writer didn't even spell the person they were attacking name correctly so how are we to know it's even the same person they knew. Secondly, what does any of what Wheezie said have to do with the business they are doing harm to by publishing this in the first place? I have been a long time customer of Earthchild, and its previous incarnation; Keedo. I have never found the owners or people they hire to staff their shows or store to be anything but professional and courteous, including Toshi himself. I think nothing of taking my niece and nephews to the store on a regular basis to shop and certainly have never seen anything in Toshi's behavior to lend any credibility to what has been said here. I hope the editors of this site will look at that posting again and re-evaluate the relevance of the comments which sounds more like a personal grudge than anything. I will continue to shop at Earthchild and hope that what was written here by one person will not keep others, who have not had the pleasure of visiting this store in person, from doing so as well.

I Just Don't Get It

AUTHOR: New Jersey Shopper - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 14, 2008

I came across the report on Earthchild while searching Google for a telephone number for the store. To say I was shocked at the comments made by Wheezie of Westfield is an understatement.

I have shopped in this store quite often since it opened. There are three owners, including Toshi. All three have been wonderfully helpful, accomodating and pleasant. Although pricey, the quality of clothing that Earthchild sells is miles above your typical kids clothing store. Nothing every wears out! As such, I have gone out of my way to travel many miles back to Westfield to purchase clothes and gifts there.

There has never been any sign of the anything upleasant from the owners, or any negative undertones. It is sad that comments like those of Wheezie, which have nothing to do with the store at all, and which sound more like personal spat, should be allowed on your web site. It is extremely defametory, and you really should remove it or contact the store directly.
