Beware of sellers like tap_24_7, located in Benton, AK. She lists how fair she is, and to contact her if you have any problems. She most definitely is not fair, and she will ignore you emails for long periods of time. Then when you finally get disgusted, she will threaten you and call you all kinds of vile names. Guess she figures she can scare away most of the people with this.

Upon receipt of the item I purchased from her, I found out that it was not sterling silver as she described, and that she didn't insure the package which I paid her for. She finally said to mail the item back for a refund. I did, and I have proof of receipt, but she is now denying receiving this package. Of course, I left her negative feed back on this after a month of trying to settle the problem, and she retaliated with vicious lies on my feed back which I expected from the likes of this woman.

I contacted other sellers that left her negative feedback, and they responded by telling me that they received items that were not as described. A few returned the items for a refund which they haven't received, and it is several months later. They also noted how nasty and vicious this person was to them.

Of course, eBay will not intervene or do anything, and they will only tell you to iron out your problem with the seller. The problem is that this type of seller knows all of this and more, and they are ripping of people left and right. Just think of all the money they probably are making just by not insuring a package when they were paid to do so. Then there is the return of the item, and them not sending the buyer back their refund. I suggest before you bid on anything that you read over every single feedback, not matter how high eBay rates the seller, because you just may find a pattern like this seller has.

SHIPPING CHARGES!

AUTHOR: Jane - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 05, 2006

I agree with you about feebay charging excessive fees for EVERYTHING but if you buy from a seller who charges you $1.00 for a ring and $10.00 to ship it (or whatever the exact fees are) you might get screwed in the long run because if there is a dispute the you could be refunded your ACUTAL buying costs only. Now I get it that in this case it is really not a big deal but if you were to buy a printer for example...the printer that cost $10.00 but $80.00 in shiping fees arrives at your door not as described, you file a dispute and your ACTUAL bid price only is refunded and not the shipping (since you did agree to pay it and it WAS shipped). Just be careful.

As for Steve, I do agree with you about the labels.

Most of the time I have found that they only say that they 1. label was purchased and 2. that the label arrived at the destination and not much (if any) info inbetween. I guess my point would be however that if you ARE a scammer, if the post office does scan it before it arrives at the destination location how could a scammer then say he did not get it and win. I get it that alot is riding on ONE honest postal employee at the end of the trip but the scammer has no idea that it was scanned or not.
*****FUNNY STORY
When I went to the post office and asked them to scan the package that I made, the clerk did not say it could not do it, she said she WOULD not do it. She said it was free and you get what you pay for!
Small cancelation that she no longer works there (I am sure she was reassigned but not fired)

Hello again Steve (and others)

I know when I have printed off labels through Paypal, that I have had the postman who comes to my door scan it into the system. The only time he was unable to scan it was when I taped over the bar code and had colored all of the area with a green highlighter.

Now I just highlight around the bar code, green because that is color of the USPS label if you put it on by hand.

I'm not going to contradict you saying that your package wouldnt scan. I'm wondering also if there is a time difference.. usually when I've got a package going out.. it goes out the next day from printing the label. I print them, pack them, then ship the next day. So, maybe it takes time to get into the system. I really dont know. Or maybe we have printer differences, I'm using a laser printer maybe that makes a difference... I just dont know.

Who knows.. maybe I just get lucky when I ship.

I forgot about not putting links in posts but.. one of them I put in was the help files on shipping on eBay. I found there and on the USPS site where both confirmed that Paypal shipping was also USPS shipping. I am not trying to debate you and I hope you dont think I am. I am trying to help figure this conundrum out.

OH, btw.. if you are horrendously busy at home one day and can' get out to mail your packages, or you have to wait for a phone call or whatever reason, the night before you can go to the USPS site (I believe it's before 2am) and you can request a carrier pick up for free.. as long as you have at least one priority or express package. Just thought I'd toss that your way for your convenience. It comes in handy for me as I'm disabled with no car at the moment.

I think I've said enough on this subject, on to other things (like clearing all these windows I have open!) I bid you good day and happy shipping.

Some ebay sellers overcharge for shipping, others do not

AUTHOR: Thomas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 20, 2006

I bought a 6-week old Conrad-Johnson tube preamp on ebay from GRA, and shipping cost $20 via UPS with tracking. And it was double-boxed, with bubble wrap between the original C-J shipping box and a substantial outer box. This was very reasonable, in my mind.

Some ebay sellers will charge $55 to ship a guitar because it is to be packed by Black Forest Gnomes. Other auction sellers will charge $18 to ship a guitar. This is why I bought a first-quality Epiphone (Gibson) Masterbilt "solid wood" (Spruce/Rosewood) acoustic/electric guitar from M-F for $600 ("Free" trackable shipping!) instead of a non-warranted factory-second version of the same guitar from an ebay seller with a $55 shipping charge causing a total cost of $574.

So there is a lot of variation in shipping costs on ebay. "No tracking" is sucky for both the seller AND the buyer.

Advice for Anita on Ebay shipping fees and listing fees.

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 20, 2006

Anita,

This is a popular scam being pulled by many Ebay sellers, but ebay has caught on and has announced a new policy that will go into effect soon to shut down those sellers who do just what you said.

Ebay is losing millions on this scam in lost listing fees and they are dealing with too many customer complaints over the practice.

It is real easy to set your reserve price to cover the item and your costs. When you list an item Ebay tells you what your total listing fees are. If you did not set your price high enough to make it worth it, revise your listing.

I figure my listing fees in my "handling" cost that is separate from the shipping, but gets added together upon checkout. I also figure in the actual cost of my labels, envelopes and boxes, etc.. in the handling charge. This allows you to cover your cost without paying listing fees on your costs too, but rather just on the actual price the item sells for, as you are not adding your handling costs into the base price of the item.

Ebay will be suspending sellers who engage in that practice of selling the 1 cent item or similar with the huge S&H cost. They put this notice out a few weeks ago.

That pricing scam puts all honest Ebay sellers at an extreme disadvantage.

FeeBay

AUTHOR: Anita - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 20, 2006

The reason people are over charging for shipping is because FeeBay charges a fee for everything.. my niece put some coins on there & put a reserve on them... after FeeBay added up all the charges.. she ended up owing them $20.. she lost everything...

i recently bought an emerald ring for a penny.. shipping was 7.95... i know it doesn't cost that to ship a ring.. i bought insurance & when the ring got here the cost to ship was $1.54.. do i feel cheated? nope the ring was well worth the $8 i paid.. if they had put a reserve on it, they wouldn't have made their money back.. they probably would have owed FeeBay for the transaction...

so go ahead & slam the sellers for trying to make a buck & screw FeeBay out of a few... i will pay exessive shipping for a low priced item if i feel it's worth it

Deanna...There is no confusion..re: Ebay/Paypal shipping vs USPS shipping..

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 20, 2006

Deanna,

You are missing the point here and the main issue.

The Ebay/Paypal shipping site is NOT the official USPS site, AND items shipped with label created for the Ebay/payPal site CANNOT be scanned in at time of sending. Items shipped from the Click n' Ship/USPS site CA be scanned in at time of sending. That was the point. PROOF that you actually sent the item and the ability to track it enroute.

What good is delivery confirmation if the item never gets delivered? You cannot prove you actually sent it, and you cannot track it enroute with Ebay/Paypal shipping labels.

With USPS labels you can prove you actually sent it, and CAN track it every step of the way online.

Furthermore, you can ONLY ship PRIORITY Mail and Express Mail from the official USPS/Click n' Ship site. You cannot send any first class, media, or parcel post from that site.

The Ebay/Paypal site is a result of a deal with the USPS. The Ebay/PayPal site allows shipping of all forms of mail. So if they are the same, why can't you send all of these types of mail from the USPS official site?

**Here is the proof:
I tested this 2 weeks ago. I prepared 2 identical PRIORITY MAIL envelopes. Mailed them at the same time. It was for an ebay sale which I clicked on ship now and went to the ebay shipping site. I prepared the ebay/paypal shipping label and put it on the envelope.

I weighed it and put the same amount of weight and and invoice /free gift for the buyer in another identical envelope and went to the USPS official site and created a label with the identical shipping info.

Now, I walk into the post office on 57th Ave here in bradenton which is the main post office in my area. I asked for each to be scanned at time of sending. The ebay prepared label would not scan and could not be manually input. The USPS created label scanned right away and I had them print me a shipping reciept.

I then got home and went to the USPS site and entered the tracking info and got email notifications every step of the way. I had no way of tracking the package with the Ebay/paypal label until after it was delivered.

Had it not been delivered, I would have had no way of proving it was sent, and I would have lost my merchandise, as well has having to refund the buyer at his word. This is a popular scam on ebay right now, and many lowlife scam artist "buyers" are out there doing this every day.

Delivery confirmation was never the point. The point was proving the item was actually sent, and the ability to track it along the way!

There are TWO different types of tracking

AUTHOR: Deanna - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, August 19, 2006

I think in this issue there is a confusion of the types of trackimg available.

There are two forms of tracking: Delivery Confirmation and Signature Confirmation.

Both can be used in the Paypal/eBay shipping and the USPS Shipping. And Paypal/eBay shipping IS through the USPS.

Delivery Confirmation is free with using Paypal shiping from the eBay site.

Signature Confirmation is also available through both venues, Paypal shipping and USPS shipping and again this is the same shipping, however, the tracking number for signature IS tracked through each stop along the way from post office to post office to door.

The key to understanding these is to understand the function of each one.

Delivery Confirmation is just that.. they confirm delivery and the USPS tracks that information only.

Signature Confirmation tracks the entire route of the package and the signature of the recipent of the package. If you are shipping something with a value of over $250 dollars you MUST use signature confirmation. It is in my opinion however that any package should be sent signature confirmation as this is the one form of tracking that Paypal will believe most of all. Yes, they will accept delivery confirmation and will stop a Non-shipping seller dispute, sometimes, but there have been many instances that even with delivery confirmation the seller has been forced to refund the monies paid by the buyer.

I sell many different things on eBay from time to time and I think it is most prudent for the seller to research the types of shipping offered. And yes, you can use Paypal for creating parcel post, media and other forms of shipping through the USPS but those packages are only again tracked with Delivery Confirmation and not Signature Confirmation unless requested and paid for at the time of the label creation.

Again, shipping using Paypal labels IS through the United States Postal Service. Please read up on the different forms of shipping available in the help section of eBay and the USPS, and Paypal to verify what I am saying to you here.

Another twist in the shipping process is that you can print shipping labels from UPS as well as shipping labels through USPS from Paypal, UPS labels are tracked from pick up to delivery.

There are some helpful links on shipping.

I hope that I have been helpful to the participants of this report. The links provided can be accessed without having to log into any of the sites.

Another difference between the authentic USPS site and ebay/paypal site

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, August 03, 2006

At the authentic USPS shipping site you can ONLY ship Priority mail and Express mail.

At the Ebay/Paypal site you can ship all kinds of mail including parcel post, 1st class packages and media mail, etc..

If the site are the same, why are they different in the things you can?

I just prepared 4 more labels on the ebay/paypal shipping site and entered the #'s in the track and confirm on the USPS site. Guess what? NO RECORD. 3 days later, guess what? No record.

2 were 1st class packages, 1 was media mail, and 1 was parcel post.

I rest my case.

PayPal Labels

AUTHOR: F. T. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, August 03, 2006

I know that I have tried to track PayPal's labels, and so far I haven't been able to track one of them with the USPS. Possibly the sellers should make sure that the numbers are entered when they mail these packages out, especially since most of them are now over-charging on shipping and not insuring items when they are paid for it.

Michelle...read it again..

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 28, 2006

I never said I couldn't track packages online.

I said that packages shipped with labels created at the Ebay/Paypal shipping site cannot be tracked at the time you send them, as you can with the package shipped with the label directly created from the USPS site.

These ebay/paypal labels will not scan in at time of shipment, nor can they be manually input for tracking at time of shipment.

YOU even stated that you just drop them and they don't get scanned! You just have not had a problem...Yet.

I have requested tracking on every package sent with an ebay/paypal created label. Not one was trackable in transit. Not one.

Was that tracking# you gave me froma package you shipped with a label created at the ebay/paypal site? Or was it created at the USPS site?

Steve , i can assure you that you CAN track the packages online , and that they DO scan , ive done it several times !

Here is one i did recently , im on an ebay breather or i would have one from today , go to usps.com and see if it tracks !

Shipping Status: Shipped
Reference Number:

Payment Transaction:
This shipping label has a related payment transaction. For further details, please see transaction XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Shows Delivered !!!

This is NOT one i took to the PO and had scanned in , this one i simply dropped in the box in front of my house !I have hundreds i have sent and i have never had one not show up !
Ive used the tracking to prove my case with paypal and they accept it as proof of delivery .

It also emails your buyer and lets them know a label has been paid for and printed , and gives them the tracking number , which saves alot of time .

As for why i use 3rd party insurance , mainly its because i use the auction service which auctiva provides for free and i like to be able to give a little something back to them , i also make 25 cents off each insurance purchase , but that in no way is my motive , ive made less than $5 total off insurance in 3 years .

Also , USPS will NOT insure anything glass to be shipped .They dont tell you that , but ask them next time your there , it isnt covered by their insurance .

Michelle,

I did just that. I stood in line and asked that the packages be scanned. They would not scan. I then asked the lady to manually input the info. She tried and it would not recognize the tracking#'s.

The ebay/paypal system IS NOT the same as the USPS system. I could not believ it at first either, so I called the terminal manager at the main post office here in Bradenton. He confirmed it.

Therefore the ebay/paypal system is useless for tracking and insurance. If the person you send your ebay merchandise to says you never sent it, you cannot prove that you did. And, your claim is not with USPS, It is with ebay.

Those are the facts. I have had ebay buyers email me to thank me and let me know they got the merchandise and the tracking still showed no status.

It is just as easy, and safer to just go directly to the USPS site and do your shipping.

And, why would you use a third party insurer? USPS insurance is cheap, and they pay. No problems.

Click & Ship is USPS !

AUTHOR: Michelle - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 25, 2006

Steve I dont know where you get your information but the USPS Click & Ship as offered by Paypal IS official USPS labels and items CAN be tracked.
The problem is that the post office does not scan them into the system when they are received but DO scan them when they arrive at the destination so they do show when they are delivered .

And if you want to spend extra time you CAN take these labeled packages to the USPS and demand that they scan them into the system so they show up.
sometimes they will and sometimes they wont, but as i tell them, i pay the same amount as anyone else and i want the same service !

As far as people trying to scam this way i have had a couple try that but when they filed the item not received with paypal i countered with the tracking info that the click and ship gives me showed they were delivered and i won both cases .

Now about insurance ive had a couple people complain that i didnt buy insurance well i did buy insurance but i use a 3rd party insurance provider (Auctiva) and it doesnt show on the label i was however able to prove it was purchased as promised so just because it isnt on the label doesnt mean it isnt insured.

Thomas....NOT USPS...Ebay/Paypal

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 25, 2006

Thomas,

You missed what I wrote. USPS tracking works fine and has for a long time.

However the "USPS" labels you purchase and print through the Ebay/Paypal system are NOT authentic USPS labels and cannot be tracked. This is the problem. The labels cannot be scanned or manually input into the USPS system. And, this causes them to travel slower too.

It does not affect the package getting there, you just cant prove you sent it or that it was recieved! If the buyer says you never sent it, you cannot prove otherwise.

My point was not to use the online postage/shipping at the ebay/paypal site. Always go directly to the USPS site. It is the same price, and can be tracked all the way.

Hey, Steve, I read a short while ago that USPS Tracking

AUTHOR: Thomas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 25, 2006

Hey, Steve, I read a short while ago that USPS Tracking for packages does not yet work. Last USPS package I got [maybe 2 months ago] had a tracking number but that tracking number would not work. The package still got here in a very reasonable amount of time.

UPS tracking numbers can take up to 24 hours after system entry to track the package. But I am not sure if the USPS package tracking system is operational yet.

One more thing I just found out about ebay/paypal shipping.

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 25, 2006

Here is another thing to avoid. DO NOT use the ship button on ebay/paypal and create a label. Here's why. That postage you pay for and the insurance and delivery confirmation CANNOT be scanned in or tracked by the USPS. If there is an issue of loss or damage, or someone saying they never got it. etc..Your claim is NOT with the USPS. It is with Paypal/Ebay.

Always go DIRECTLY to the USPS website and buy your postage and confirmation/insurance services. This way, as soon as you ship it, it is scanned in and trackable for your protection.

This is starting to be a very big scam. A buyer says he never got the item and your paypal acout gets charged back, or worse yet frozen entirely. So you lose your merchandise and pay back the money!

Be careful with that.

Excellent Guidelines

AUTHOR: F. t. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 25, 2006

My problem is that many sellers do not accept credit cards, and I absolutely refuse to be involved with PayPal due to their poor record. I usually pay by money order or personal check, and this isn't the greatest, as you well know.

Not too many sellers will leave feedback until they receive it from the buyer. You are 100% right that the seller should leave the feed back first, because they actually have the first part of the contract that you enter when you buy something from them. If you go to this seller and read all her rules and comments on feedback, and how she is willing to try to work out a problem you would think she is reliable. She is just the opposite of every thing that is stated on her web pages.

I thank you again for all of your suggestions, as they are well written and should be used.

I have several guidelines for auctions on ebay....

AUTHOR: Thomas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 23, 2006

1. If the seller states or implies that they will give your feedback AFTER you have given your feedback on them, I skip that seller. Reputable sellers like Gene Rubin Audio and West Marine give your feedback as soon as you have completed your side of the bargain. And their feedback ratings are fantastic! 'Seller feedback first' is only fair, and I believe ebay mentions this feedback sequence but they do not enforce it.

2. If the shipping seems excessive, I will skip the auction. If the description is vague and/or the terms and conditions are complicated, I skip the auction.

3. If the seller's feedback contains ANYTHING that seems the least bit significantly negative from an otherwise-reliable buyer, I skip that auction.

Others have posted here what % positive feedback they will require, and their guidelines looked pretty good to me. Look under "auto sales".

4. I only use sellers who accept credit cards. No paypal, no checks, wire transfers, or money orders. I used to send money orders until 2002 and had no problems, but ebay seems to have changed.

5. There must be an approvial period, since I am accepting the seller's promises in good faith. Your CC will get your money back for you when necessary.

What About the Feedback Left For Me?

AUTHOR: F. t. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 23, 2006

If eBay ever removed that feedback I would be more upset than I am. This seller left me worse feedback containing all lies, and she has the nerve to call other people liars.

She is the one who (1)sent me something that was suppose to be sterling silver, and it was not. (2)I paid her for the insurance, she did not insure. (3)I returned the item to her after her insisting that I do so for a refund, she received it and now denies ever receiving it. I am the hurt party, as I am out all of the money I paid her, the item, and the return postage. She has gained all around on this transaction and several others.

After all of this, how dare you say that the feedback left for her should be removed? Any way, how do you know what feedback I left her? She has several other negatives, and the buyers all say they had similar or the same problem with this seller. I wonder how many others she ripped off, but due to her threatening and calling them names they were afraid to leave her any bad feedback.

I know from now on before I bid I will check every single feedback left for a seller. If they are similar, I will not bid on anything from the seller. I've been ripped off by a few other sellers, but thank heavens they are a minority on eBay. Which category do you fit into?

giving ebay a bad name

I have reviewed the sellers feedback and it is real good for the volume they do. I would buy from tap_24_7 anyday of the week. This issue should have died with your neg feedback on ebay. I feel they should pull this report off this site.
