Being a seller on eBay these days is a hazardous endeavor. I had various used software from my old computer that I was trying to sell at auction on eBay. I had applied for transfers of ownership from the software companies, and made sure everything was straight and legal about this process. I believe that my written complaint to eBay about the lack of ability for sellers to provide negative feedback to buyers had something to do with this problem, but of course I could be wrong. It just seemed everything was fine up to that point, and then they started harassing me. They locked up my PayPal account, and even though there were no negative feedbacks against me (but I had two non-paying bidders at that time), and when one auction was finished, and payment of $177.50 received from buyer - they locked the funds to my Paypal account, and then buyer accused me of being a fraud.

My Paypal account was opened in 2002, and had 31 verified transactions, with no complaints. Her Paypal account was new and unverified. I offered her to pay by money order, because there was no way I was going to send the software (Studio 8) to her without funds. It got nasty from there, and she gave me negative feedback, and saying I was insisting on her paying by mo, when all I did was offer a way for her to receive the item. Software is too easily copied, and then complained against, and the buyer gets the software free, and then perhaps resells it on eBay. I knew of this trick that buyers sometimes do, and therefore was not going to be a party of that type of thing, and placed "no returns of software" on the auctions.

Well, it has gotten worse than this. EBay/Paypal tried to extract funds from my credit card registered on Paypal, and locked my Paypal account against closing it. I immediately closed my credit card account before they could take an unknown quantity of money from that account. This credit card account was paid off, so therefore had a large limit of funds available, and we couldn't take a chance with that. I lucked out with this part of it, but it could and would have gotten very nasty if the "purchase verification" had gone through in the Paypal account. Even the bank credit card company told me they knew I had never charged anything through my Paypal account, and no record of ever doing that at all, so why all of a sudden when trying to close the account was there a "purchase verification" going through my credit card? I had always used the available funds in the Paypal account for purchases, and auctions.

Beware of eBay,and Paypal, because they can do anything they want with your money, for no reason, or even a made-up reason. They have no scruples at all.

I stopped doing business on ebay after they forced me to use PayPal

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

I used to be an ebay "Power Seller" for over 8 years. I also bought tons of stuff on ebay and in one occasion when I did not receive the merchandise that I had ordered i disputed the charge on my credit card.

this was a normal and legitimate thing but not for PayPal. they blocked me from using their service if I would not tell my credit card company to reverse the charges that had been reversed. these guys think that they are almighty and that they are so powerful that a customer how was cheated and did not receive the merchandise would beg for their services.

well, for some time I was able to continue to do business on ebay using checks, money orders and cashiers checks. but then ebay went a step further and implemented the "No ebay without PayPal" policy.

From that day on they lost my business. Obviously they don't need me but I don't need them either. Now, if there is something that I would have sold on ebay previously, I jsut throw it into the garbage. And the stuff that I used to buy on ebay - I can also get it somewhere else... There is a life beyond ebay. Maybe one day, if they are smart enough to realize that their PayPal policy does not increase their profits and if they get back to their old system where buyers and sellers had the freedom to decide how to pay, i might come back.

forced to use paypal by ebay!!

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

since ebay got there hands on paypal things have changed. They force you to use paypal. I have been an ebay seller for 9+ years and have well over 500 feedback.

Now if you try and put that you will accept money orders they send an email telling you to remove the money order payment plan from your listing or they will remove your listing.

Also we all took a big hit when shipping rates went way up, Then ebay raises it rates!
I have a bunch of saved sellers in my list that Have been on ebay for as long as myself and they are no longer listing items at all.

Ebays stock has gone way down also.

I feel it's time to remove and replace meg as CEO.
My vote goes to Uncle griff!!!

you can check him out at ebay radio!

Anyway don't let it get the best of you.

One time someone got there hands on my paypal card and changed $80.00 at QT
on whatever.
I informed paypal and got all my money back so that was good

anyway I wish you luck and I really beleave it's time to replace MEG as CEO
