I stayed at an econolodge in Fenton, MO on August 12, 2005. My family and I stayed in two adjoining double double rooms. We arrived at the merchant at appooximately 2:30am. We had to switch rooms because the first set was not cleaned properly. We were moved to rooms closer to the office. We had a pleasant stay actually and had no complaints for the level of lodging the econolodge is.

After checking my credit card statement a week later I noticed a $40.00 charge in addition to the charges for the two rooms. I called the manager at that location and she indicated to me that there were two blankets missing after my party and I had left and she charged my credit card. She told me that she checked with her staff and they had no reason to lie to her about the missing blankets and I was being charged for them.

The econolodge staff at this location are very dishonest in their practices. Upon review of the un-signed reciept for $40.00 it shows the charge is from the rooms that we turned down initially due to uncleanliness. They neglected to provide me with a list of what I would be charged should something be damaged, removed, stolen or otherwise. I was not informed before hand to authorize the charge, nor was I given the opportunity to sign that I acknowledged the charges.

I even received a letter at my home from the same manager that called me a liar apologizing for my unpleasant stay due to the power going out. I never experienced a power outage during my 7 hours there. They can't even get the complaints of guests straight.

I will never stay at another econolodge. I didn't know it was my responsibility as a hotel guest to take inventory of the room to make sure that the houskeeping staff didn't cut corners and have me end up paying for it long after I've left.

After several months of letter writing back and forth between the arbitration department for my credit card. I was issued a credit from econolodge for the overcharged amount . I also filed a report with the BBB and since closed that report as resolved as well.
