Economy Lube broken bug shield no apology, no compensation Kitchener Ontario
*REBUTTAL Owner of company: customer complaint
*Consumer Suggestion: Not responsible for aftermarket accessories
My fiance went to Economy Lube for an oil change and when it was done they presented her with a large piece of her broken bug deflector. They then explained that this was simply a normal part of the process and that they really couldn't have prevented it. They also mentioned that she could simply super-glue it back together. I went there a week later and they weren't not much more apologetic. I filled out a claim form, but have still not heard anything weeks later. I simply wonder where the responsibility is for people who return your vehicle worse off than it was before.

#1 Consumer Suggestion
Not responsible for aftermarket accessories

I know this is a very unpopular position, but no repair facilty is responsible for the aftermarket accessories that someone installs on their vehicle. This includes power adders, lighting, and yes, bug shields. Mechanics and oil change guys TRY to NOT damage said parts, but it does occur from time to time. My suggestion would be to stop losing sleep over it and go buy another deflector. The factory does not install some stuff for a reason. They would be required to be responsible for them. Dealer add-ons are not warranteed by the factory, and most times, not even by the dealership that installed them. You may get some relief from the manufacturer of the shield if you call/write them and tell them you closed the hood and it broke. They may use the experience to redesign the item for future sales.
