I follow my manufacturer's maintenance schedule for my car very closely.  I know what needs to be done and when.  On a recent visit to these scum bags they tried to tell me that according to my  owner's manual I needed several things changed. They were lying and I knew it. After I left I confirmed they were lying by double checking my manual.  Everything they said that had to be changed that day was way off by several years and tens of thousands of kilometers.

For example, with 60,000 km on my car they tried to tell me that, according to my owner's manual, my brake fluid should be changed.  Most owner's manuals/maintenance schedules say nothing about changing break fluid because it is EXTREMELY RARE that break fluid needs to be changed.

These people are crooks!!!

They Lied

AUTHOR: Mike F - (Canada)

POSTED: Monday, September 12, 2011

Thank you for your comment. My point is that they lied. They said according to my owner's manual those things HAD to be done when they didn't have to be done for many years, if at all. If I walked down the street and somebody stole $100 from me they would go to jail. These crooks steal everyday (there are lots of other comments like mine online about Economy Lube) and they get away with it.

Owners manuals do say every two years and some Like Volkswagen it is every three years. IT is not an fully sealed system it is water tight not air tight. The reason you can go so long and have no problems is because the change is so Minuit you cant realy see it but it can be measured.

They Lied

AUTHOR: Mike F - (Canada)

POSTED: Thursday, August 11, 2011

Thank you for that information.  I know some people think it's a good idea to change brake fluid every two years.  Auto manufacturers would put that in their car's maintenance schedules if it were necessary, especially because it would mean more money for them and their dealerships.

My point though was that they lied about it and other things saying it was in my manual when it wasn't.  They also told me my power steering fluid had to be changed, with 60,000 km on my car.  Another thing that almost never has to be changed.  ESPECIALLY at 60,000 km.

I'm most assuredly not an automotive expert,

but my understanding of the  brake system is that it is not quite a sealed system, but a closed system and fluid aeration by an ABS brake system can cause moisture to form and corrosion of brake system components.

I can't and won't try to debate this with you and I respect your position, but I'll have to go with my understanding of what goes on in the brake system..appreciate your input.

Master Mechanic Jim here, I never change mine either, Jus HOW does water supposedly get in to a sealed system?

It's all sealed, unless YOU open it.

You are dead wrong on the brake fluid change...

It is generally recommended at 2 year intervals.  Here's a link to one website explaining it...there are NUMEROUS others.  This will substantially increase the life of your BRAKE system.
