When my mother fell ill, I needed to fly out of town at the last minute to go help her. I was swamped tending to a very sick parent in the hospital, and it slipped my mind to reschedule my Graduate Records Examination (GRE) until three days before. Up until I received the call from my family, I had been diligently studying to take the GRE for six months.

When I called Educational Testing Service (ETS) three days before the test, the representative's response was, "You should have read our Website. You can't reschedule so close to your test date and we don't give out refunds." She yelled at me on the phone, she was rude, and she was outright mean. When I asked to speak with her manager, she outright said, "No." To add, the woman I spoke to kept using the word "aks" instead of "ask." It was a horrendous representation of an educational service!

They would not reimburse me my $185, nor would they let me reschedule. Services were not rendered, yet they still had my money and would not give it back!

I am so disappointed that our United States university system caters to these money hungry, evil thieves! ETS is not a non-profit - the CEO pockets up to $700,000 a year and the board members are all paid over $300,000 a year, which is a violation of IRS standards. It is not a "service" to our University system. ETS is simply a corporate scheme created to sham individuals who seek higher education. Plain and simple, ETS is a scam.

The GRE can only only be taken through the monopoly that is ETS. My advice to any individual seeking graduate school is do your homework. There are many wonderful universities that do not require you to take the GRE, but rather evaluate you on your grade point average, letters of recommendation, essay, work and volunteer background. Take a stand and don't give your money to this monopolozing educational chicanery.
