I asked for the default judgment and stip they allege I agreed to. They said I could go to NYC and look it up. In the end, I gave them 400.00 and 100.00 a month to go the hell away. I thought about cancelling my bank account, but you know what? They will find you, even if you open up another one. Yes, it is possible to go to court and do 5 million things, but the whole process hinges on whether or not they actually obtained a default judgment against you. As an attorney, I can tell you if they in fact did so, you have very little to stand on, unless you can prove fraudulent service of process or fraudulent debt. In my case, the debt was from 1998. I figured discover card had written it off. Basically, the credit card sells the debt to these companies who then do the nail and mail or summons with anyone who can sign that they know you and if you don't appear, boom; instant default judgment. It took them 10 years to find me, but find me they did. I'm too old to go back to paying $15.00 to cash a paycheck just to avoid bottom-feeding scum like this. It's the reason I don't even want to practice law at all anymore. They have destroyed life as we know it.
