I was encouraged by my doctor to try an Electrical Stimulator from Empi for my back.  What I received was a "refurbished" unit that consisted of no more than a neopreon belt with electrodes, a very small battery pack that quit recharging after about the first month.  It looked like about $30.00 worth of equipment.

The sales person that met me at my doctors office was very inexact about the cost, insurance, etc.  About a month into having this device,  and after it basically stopped working, I got a notice from my insurance company saying that Empi had billed them over $750.00 for this useless piece of garbage.  My insurance company negotiated them down to about $300.00, but I was on the hook for $298.01 because I had not met my deductible for that year.

If you try to call to speak to anyone about this you will be on hold forever.  When you do get through to someone they say it can't be returned and that they have to transfer you to their repair department.  When you reach the "repair department" you get a voicemail that says they're all too busy to speak with you and ask you to leave your number so they can call you back.  They call you back, maybe, and leave a message that they called you back, and the whole thing starts all over again.
This is a big black hole of medical scam.  Don't do business with these people.  The mark up on their equipment has to be somewhere around 200%.  But that doesn't matter because their equipment doesn't work anyway.  And when you're left with broken equipment, and a bill for $300.00, you won't be able to reach anyone on the phone to resolve this.  If you do reach someone on the phone it will become very clear that they have no intention doing honest business.
