This has happened to me as well. At least you have only been with Meijer for one year. This has happened to me twice and I have been with Meijer for 3 years. I make 25 cents more than new hires. Both times I had been given the minimum wage hike, my hours were reset. And both times I had 900+ hours. I make $7.75. Meijer had really disappointed me. I am still employed there, and have 59 hours left to go to receive my 2nd real raise in 3 years. I work part time and really have no rights at all. I do not get vacation, medical or anything. My average fringe hours have been kept just under their guidelines to have any time off with pay. This really gets me as I should have at least 2-3 weeks with paid vacations. Please include me on your list if anything can be done about any of this.

Did I miss something...

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 12, 2009

Did some laws get passed all of the sudden that guarantees a person a job at a certain wage and benefits??? Please pass this information along to everyone here. As a lot of people who are out of work and just trying to find SOMETHING would love to know all about these wonderful new laws. And no I am not refering to the Minimum Wage which guarantees a MINIMUM a person should earn.

Now, being "kept" below a certain level is quite common. Because the fact is they don't want to pay you the benefits that would be afforded to full-time people. This is NOT evil or a RipOff, but business.

Just from your example of getting 2-3 weeks off(with pay). This is money that just goes out but does not do anything to staff the store. So if they moved everyone(or even a bigger percentage) into Full Time this extra cost has to come from somewhere. This is either by raising prices(and with the huge discount stores this can't happen), or cut down on staffing. For example if the store has 10FT/50PT employees. They move another 15 to FT, but to pay for it they have cut another 10PT employees. So after the move they now have 25FT/25PT employees in effect laying off 10 people to keep their overhead the same.

If you don't like it then quit and get another job. Just as there are no laws that say they have to keep you or pay you a certain rate(other than Minimum Wage). There is also no law that states you have to work for them.

Sorry if this sounds rough, but it just appears that you feel that you are entitled to things that you really are not.
